Sydney mother allegedly beaten to death in mansion following money dispute

August 19, 2014

The man accused of beating a Sydney mother to death in her northern suburbs mansion had allegedly argued with her husband over money the day before, telling him “I will win in the end”.

The NSW Supreme Court heard on Tuesday that Shahnaz Qidwai, 65, was found dead in the bedroom of her home in Henley by one of her four adult children on the afternoon of June 15, 2012.

The man now facing trial for murder over the attack is Tony Halloun, a western Sydney concreter who had been contracted to fix the Qidwai family’s driveway and undertake other works.

Paramedic speaks of ‘murder scene’ at the trial of Tony Halloun, accused of murdering Shahnaz Qidwai

August 20, 2014

A PARAMEDIC believed he had stumbled on a murder scene in a Sydney mansion when he examined a deceased woman’s injuries.

At his Supreme Court trial today, paramedic Dominic Sudano said he examined Mrs Qidwai and noticed blood around her face and no sign of life.

Mr Sudano said he initially believed she had fallen down the stairs and then made her way to the bedroom

“I later realised that from the extent of her injuries, she wouldn’t have been able to mobilise herself,” Mr Sudano told the jury.

“That when I formed a suspicion that this was actually a crime scene.”

A tradesman found guilty of murdering a grandmother in her Sydney waterfront home lied compulsively, offering police three different scenarios to cover his tracks.

Chilling new footage shows 36-year-old Tony Halloun's elaborate web of lies begin to unravel over three on-camera interviews with detectives..

Earlier today, it took a NSW Supreme Court jury just two hours to find Halloun guilty, ruling that he was driven by debts totalling $97,000 when he killed Mrs Qidwai. He will be sentenced at a hearing next month.
