"It was a chaotic atmosphere, no one knew what was going on, the young lady was missing and everybody was just pointing fingers at each other," Officer Floyd Jackson told a Common Pleas Court jury.

Jackson was the second prosecution witness to testify at the trial of Christina Regusters, 21, charged with kidnapping the girl from the West Philadelphia elementary school and sexually assaulting her.

Assistant District Attorney Erin O'Brien told the jury in her opening statement that the evidence - testimony from the victim, now 7; surveillance video of the abduction; Regusters' DNA on the victim's shirt and Internet searches about child sex assaults on Regusters' personal computer - all point to the former Silver Spring, Md., woman as the person who kidnapped and assaulted the girl on Jan. 14, 2013.

Though the girl had been anally and vaginally raped with an object and needed surgery to repair injuries, she helped police retrace her kidnapper's steps, recognizing the Walton Avenue house where she said she was held.

A kindergartner abducted from her school was missing for six hours before her family learned she was gone, witnesses testified Monday as a young woman's kidnapping and sexual assault trial opened.

Former child care worker Christina Regusters, 21, is the lone person charged in the brazen attack, although the defense has said others must be involved. The little girl herself believes she was attacked by a man, because that's what she was told when blindfolded, a prosecutor said.

"This is the man your mommy sold you to," the girl was told earlier as she was shown a cellphone photo, according to Assistant District Attorney Erin O'Brien.

The DA's Office says the girl was placed in a laundry bag and brought to a home along the 6200 block of Walton Avenue. It was there, while blindfolded, she was put under a bed and raped with a sharp object over a 19-hour period, according to officials.

She was dumped, like trash, in a Delaware County playground severely injured and wearing only an oversized T-shirt.

A woman charged with abducting a 5-year-old Philadelphia girl from school and sexually assaulting her was temporarily suspended at the time from her job at the day care center the child attended, her former employer testified Tuesday... "She was a good employee," day care owner April Walker said Tuesday.

Regusters, then 19, worked well with the children, Walker said, but was suspended for three days on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, because of issues with poor attendance. The girl went missing from her nearby public school kindergarten the following Monday.

Carter worked at a child care center a block away, and had gone to Bryant Elementary School to pick up the girl and several other charges. At first, she found school officials "nonchalant" about the missing child.

"Nobody seemed to care," Carter said. "The assumption was she's just somewhere in (the building)."

She ran through the school crying out the girl's name, and then called the girl's mother, she said. The mother had dropped the girl and her older brother off that morning, minutes before the impostor lured her from the classroom, a school security videotape showed.

The girl, speaking from her hospital bed days later, told her mother that she had been blindfolded at a house with a talking bird, and then hurt by a bad man. She said that a teenager named China stayed under the bed with her at times and tried to help her.
