Woman murdered in house at Norman Park as her children slept

August 26, 2014

POLICE have released the name and photo of a man who they want to speak to over the suspected murder of a woman who was killed while her children slept inside her inner Brisbane home in Norman Park this morning.

Detectives want to speak with Jacob Michael Smith, 38, who they say is a person of interest in the investigation. He is 180cm tall, of average build with dark brown hair

Anthea Mari, 34, was found dead in the living room of her house this morning, with police and paramedics called about 3.30am.

The Courier-Mail understands police are investigating whether the mother-of-four was strangled.

Police said while Mr Smith was known to live around the Gold Coast, particularly Coolangatta and Mudgeeraba, and Wynnum, attempts to locate him had been unsuccessful.

Detective Inspector Rod Kemp warned the public to stay away from Mr Smith.

“We are mindful he could be a danger to the public. We just don’t know what his involvement is until he comes forward.”

He said he could not comment on whether Mr Smith has a violent history.

“Stay away from him and contact police.”

Police have appealed for anyone who heard or saw anyone in the street prior to 4am to come forward.

(Sorry in advance Marlywings, if this is unacceptable).

Unfortunately, Anthea experienced alot of domestic violence in her life.

Ms Mari, a mother of four, once featured in a campaign for for not-for-profit organisation Micah Project. She spoke of spending 15 years of trying to raise a young family while moving in and out of domestic violence refuges.

Am sending her much love. May she rest in peace.:rose:

What's in the water in Brisbane, this is now happening all too often!

“We believe he is just a friend, we don’t believe there was any relationship.
“He is a person of interest in this matter, he was there last evening we believe from what witnesses have told us so we are calling for him to come forward.”
Norman Park bashing

Two housemates and the daughter of the woman have assisted police in the investigation.

Police say he visited the house earlier in the night.

The location has been described as both Camp Hill and Norman Park. I have spent a lot of time in Norman Park, it is a very quiet place.

That's alarming isn't it! I suspect he does indeed have a violent history if police are warning people to stay away from him

So very sad. Thinking of those three beautiful children robbed of their mother.

There are actually four children, Tangled Web. :seeya:

Ms Mari's 11- and 12-year-old daughters were in the house at the time of her death and were taken away for counselling when emergency services arrived, Inspector Kemp said.

.......Ms Mari also has a three-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter, both of whom did not live at the house.

Four beautiful children, 11 and 12 year-olds living with their Mum, and 3 and 15 year-olds living with their Grandmother.
