Clarence and Tricia Lahl said their daughter, Rebecca, was hospitalized Saturday evening after she stopped medication that treated a mental illness condition. But after holding the teenager for about 10 hours, the Lahls said, hospital officials released her about 4 a.m. Since then, the Lahls said, they haven't been able to find Rebecca.

Video footage of one of the hospital's entrances, Tricia Lahl said, showed her daughter leaving the hospital. And a woman who works at the hospital, Tricia Lahl said, told her she saw Rebecca leave with two men near a bar on Village Drive...

Rebecca also has a rare genetic disorder that keeps her blood from clotting and makes her susceptible to losing large amounts of blood from even a small cut, Lahl said. "About five years ago, she almost bled to death from a nose bleed," Tricia Lahl said, "so even if she gets a bruise it can be really bad."

Rebecca wear wire-rimmed glasses and is 5'4" and 125 pounds with brown hair. Last seen wearing a gray shirt and jeans.

OkieGranny, Will you please update the thread title with something about critical missing or endangered. This does not sound good at all. According to the FB page, she left with two men who approached her in the smoking area at the hospital. Because of her medical problems and mental disabilities, she has led a sheltered life and definitely did not know these men. She has the mental capacity of a 12 year old. Also she has been without her medication for 5 days now.

It sounds like the police are not searching for her, because she is over 18 and the family is just in the process of getting legal guardianship. This poor family needs help searching.

The hospital let her go at 4am? My goodness.

Who were these men? Since they were at the hospital, likely visitors or workers.

Hospitals (I'm guessing she was in the ER) 'let people go' at all hours of the day and night. To hold a person not under arrest or some type of legal hold against their will is just not possible. So this is not surprising.

As far as the two men- you would be SHOCKED at the number of people hanging around hospitals who have no actual business there. People from the community come to eat their meals (we have a LARGE group of people who so this where I work- day and night), and just generally hang out.

Do the parents have some sort of power if attorney or legal official responsibility for her medical treatment? If she is mentally and physically I'll AND had the mental capacity of a 12 year old I'm not understanding how it's legal for the hospital to release her on her own. You wouldn't send a sick child out on the streets at 4am.

Apparently she just turned 18 and her adoptive parents are in the process of getting legal guardianship. http://www.fayobserver.com/news/loc...cle_9bb35ce7-0a92-59bb-8874-7d159988643b.html

Tricia Lahl said a hospital administrator later told her that her daughter had been released early Sunday morning.

Tricia Lahl said she and her husband also were told they didn't meet the standard of legal guardianship to have law enforcement issue a silver alert - a statewide missing persons announcement for those with cognitive impairments - because of the teenager's age.

Still, the Lahls said they are going through the process of getting legal custody of Rebecca, but the process can take up to two months.

An 18-year-old woman who went missing Sunday after walking out of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center was found downtown Tuesday afternoon by police. Rebecca Lahl was bleeding severely and has restraint marks on her, said her mother, Tricia Lahl, attributing those details to a law enforcement officer.

But a Fayetteville Police spokesman said, "Nothing was reported out of the ordinary."

The spokesman said officers and detectives made an effort to assure Tricia Lahl that her daughter was OK. "There was nothing to suggest any criminal activity," he said.

What could possibly account for the discrepancy? That's strange.

So glad Rebecca was found. I was afraid of what could happen to her leaving with some men that she presumably didn't even know.

The comment after the article is interesting...The mother knows her the best, but maybe too overprotective? Hmmm...strange.

ETA: I just looked again and the comment is gone.. Don't know how much I can say, but the commenter seemed to think she was ok when she was in the ER.
Of course, the parents know how she has reacted to going off meds in the past, and was probably trying to prevent that from happening.

The comment is still there. I wonder if this has something to do with the media covering up for the hospital's mistakes. I know from personal experience that the hospitals here do not handle mental health situations very well.
