A Utah woman accused of dumping her day-old baby in a neighbor's trash can told police she was afraid to tell her parents about the pregnancy and hoped the newborn's death would solve her problems, a probable cause statement shows.

Alicia Marie Englert, 23, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder.

The baby girl was in critical condition at a Salt Lake City hospital on a ventilator and fighting for her life, authorities said.

That's a crock of crapola. A 23 year old woman 'scared' to tell her parents of her pregnancy?!

Not buying it. I hope that sweetie pulls through.

Unified police is reviewing photos believed to show 23-year-old Alicia Englert, under investigation for the attempted murder of her newborn daughter, with a beer in hand at a Salt Lake night club days before the baby was born...

Englert's parents, who have said their daughter is mentally and emotionally incapable of understanding the severity of her actions, declined to comment on the photos Thursday.

She had a pretty big stomach on her. How did people not realize she was pregnant?

When I saw this on Nancy Grace tonight, I didn't catch her age (I don't know if they mentioned it), I assumed she was in high school and that's why she was hiding it from her parents! I'm so shocked to read she's 23, and disappointed to see her partying and drinking days before giving birth, it doesn't sound like she had any intentions of allowing the baby to live.

Robert Englert said Friday his daughter has a learning disability and has only recently begun to understand what she has done...

Alicia Englert's cousin, Vania Schmidt, said the extended family has been devastated. "She knew she could reach out to any one of us, we would have taken her in, gotten her to a doctor, gotten her help," she said.

Schmidt said Alicia Englert was partially raised by her aunt. As a child, she took an unusually long time to begin talking, Schmidt recalled, and while playing with other children, she would sometimes bite or scratch for no apparent reason.

According to charging documents, the baby girl was born on August 24. On August 25, according to prosecutors, the mother, Alicia Englert, 23, went to work and left the baby alone wrapped in a towel on a bathroom floor all day long. Prosecutors say on August 26, Englert went to work and put the baby in a neighbor's trash can...

According to the charging documents, police say Englert told a store clerk she was pregnant one month prior to the incident.

Alicia Englert appeared in court for the first time Wednesday to face charges accusing her of dumping her newborn baby girl in an outside garbage can. Englert is charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony.

Defense attorneys asked 3rd District Judge Ann Boyden for another month to gather information about Englert's mental condition that may explain the circumstances surrounding the case...

Boyden set a scheduling hearing in Englert's case for Oct. 6.

Lawyers for a Utah woman accused of leaving her newborn baby to die in a trash can say her mental state will be a central issue in the case...

Englert is being held on $500,000 bail and faces up to life in prison if convicted on an attempted murder charge...

The child was dirty, smelly, and had a blood-borne infection, according to Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. He said the child would have died if she wasn't found and treated. State child welfare workers have custody of the baby, who is in fair condition.

A Kearns woman facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly tossing her newborn daughter in a trash can wants a judge to allow her a "goodbye" visit with the infant, new court papers say.

In a request filed Monday, attorneys for Alicia Englert have asked for a 90-minute visit with the 3 month-old-girl, who is identified in court papers as A.H.E. The Dec. 15 visit would be supervised by the Division of Child and Family Services, and held at an agency office in Riverton, court papers say.

The infant has been in state custody since she was found on Aug. 26 in the trash in the driveway of a Kearns home.

I am curious as to why she is going to have a good bye visit? Clearly it is for her and not the baby. Why is she going to spend 90 minutes with this baby? Do her caregivers think that she will finally understand what she did?

IDK.

This is just unbelievable. She wants a "goodbye" visit. This is the same baby she left on a floor somewhere right after birth for 24 hours + and threw away and now she wants to visit her. Oh hell to the no! If those people give her the right to do that...they are crazy

Well they gave it to her! 3 hours supervised.
