    Oswaldo Zapata Reyes

Boulder police asking for public's help in finding Oswaldo Zapata Reyes, missing since July 27

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a 42-year-old Boulder man who has not been seen since July 27. Boulder police today said Oswaldo Zapata Reyes, described as a Latino male, 5-foot 6-inches tall, weighing 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen at his home in the 3500 block of Nottingham Court on Sunday, July 27.

Police said his friends, coworkers and family have not heard from him since. As of Aug. 29, all of Reyes' roommates have been interviewed by police, and investigators "have been searching for any clues as to his whereabouts without any success."

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

"When from a long distant past nothing persists, after the people are dead, after things are broken and scattered, still alone, more persistent, more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long, long time like souls, ready to remind us, waiting, hoping for their moment amid the ruins of all the rest, and bear unfaltering in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence the vast structure of recollection."

A police dog team searching near Highland Lake southeast of Berthoud on Thursday for signs of a missing 42-year-old Boulder man responded to something in the area, and a dive team will return to the lake this weekend to continue the search...

"It's something that warrants further search," Bustrum said. "So we're going to take a dive team out there and search a section of the lake and see if there is anything there."

Bustrum said that, other than the dogs reacting, no evidence of Reyes' whereabouts was found.

...A friend of Reyes' told investigators that Reyes had been to Highland Lake recently, which led to the K-9 search.

The dive team search lasted nearly four hours, from 7 a.m. to about 10:45 a.m.

A search on Sept. 6 did not turn up any evidence, officials said, but crews returned Tuesday with more equipment, including sonar-equipped boats and search dogs...

Jeremy Felix with the Boulder Emergency Squad said the poor visibility meant that divers were searching for a "needle in a haystack," so the dogs and the sonar were brought in to help crews with the search. "The more tools we have at our disposal, the better," Felix said. Two search dogs took turns circling the lakes on a boat while two divers entered the water at one spot in the lake about 50 yards from an inlet.

Officials on scene did not know if they would return to the lake in the future.
