Confusing, but it seems like Thai police found two headless corpses of 'foreign nationals' in the water off Pattaya Island, then found an 'abandoned' boat, listed as being sailed by foreigners, and connected the two.

Only now they have located the Captain of the boat - a German - and he's told them his boat wasn't abandoned, it just broke down.

So now there still remains the mystery of the two foreigners found in the water. I wonder if there have been any reports of tourists going missing in Thailand? They could be from anywhere, though I'm guessing Europe or Australia is most likely?

Police say the missing heads could be a sign of fish activity, not foul play.

More details of the bodies from an early report when the boat was still connected. Man with tattoos on left leg, and a woman.

'Both bodies were headless when recovered from the sea and the male corpse featured tattoos on his left leg. Currently names or nationalities of the pair are unknown as post-mortem examinations are due to take place later this week. '

WARNING. Appears to be a photo of a body at the link.

Could it be Russian ?

Found this Russian site 60°N

"60ºN - it's a club that combines sailing yachts Russia working on the program of training sailing expeditions."

It looks to do various schemes/expeditions worldwide !

That makes sense, there are actually quite a number of Russians in Pattaya involved in criminal activity, they are known locally as the Russian mafia. There are a lot of murders committed in Pattaya which are written up by the local authorities as accidental death or suicide, as this one likely will be.

I though the bottom row has a date- the last 4 digits are numbers, 2009.

The woman had a tattoo as well.

'The man was believed to have been dead for 10-15 days, said Pol Lt Supan Sophee, investigator at Pattaya police station. He was wearing a blue shirt with embroidered Thai wording that can be translated as “60th anniversary of Namsin Insurance” and red underwear. There were two tattoos on his left thigh, one a chicken and another a tiger.

The dead woman's body was retrieved from the sea about one nautical mile from the male body. She was wearing a brown long-sleeved T-shirt and had an eagle tattoo on her left leg. '

Police could not yet determine the age and nationalities of the deceased. The bodies were sent to Police General Hospital in Bangkok for autopsy.'

I'm just guessing - if the man was wearing a Thai tee, he had been there awhile? The woman's eagle may be a US tattoo - the man's chicken and tiger sound like Chinese horoscope characters?

To clarify - if the man was a 'foreigner' but wearing a Thai tee, I think he may have been there awhile.
