Amanda K. Russell, 40, was found in the backyard of her home in the 3000 block of 8th Street at around 3:30 p.m.

The Summit County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso...

The woman who died in her backyard after being stabbed several times suffered severe injuries during violent incidents at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, according to court filings...

Cuyahoga Falls Police Chief Jack Davis said investigators are looking into several leads, including the man named in the protection order. That man is not charged with any crime related to the murder.

(((hugs for her 14 yr old))) She handled herself so well during that 911 call -- a call that no child should ever ever have to make. I do hope she's in care of people who can truly care and support her right now.

On Sept. 3, Cuyahoga Falls police charged Jeffery J. Conrad, 43, whose last known address is Toledo, with first-degree felony aggravated murder in Ms. Russell's death. He was scheduled to be video-arraigned at Stow Municipal Court from Summit County Jail on Sept. 5...

Cleveland Metro Parks Rangers arrested Conrad at Euclid Beach around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 28... When Rangers first saw Conrad, he was stepping out from behind a tree holding a hunting knife with a 7- to 8-inch blade, according to the ranger department's police report. When they saw the knife, the rangers drew their handguns, and told Conrad to drop it. "You go ahead and do what you have to do," Conrad told them. "You're just going to have to kill me." Conrad told rangers he was schizophrenic and suffering from psychosis, the report said.

Conrad ran from rangers who pursued him on foot through woods, a trailer park and past a library, reaching Lake Erie where Conrad jumped in and, according to rangers, tried to drown himself. A Bratenahl police officer deployed his Taser which caused Conrad to drop the knife into the water.

A forensic pathologist said a Cuyahoga Falls mother was stabbed more than 55 times during a preliminary court hearing for the Toledo man charged in her murder, and a police detective said he confessed he killed her...

"Amanda Russell had many, many stabs wounds, primarily to the back side of her body," said Dr. Lisa Kohler, a forensic pathologist and chief medical examiner for Summit County, during the hearing Sept. 11. "There are greater than 55 stab wounds identified." She said the cause of death was stab wounds to the neck and torso and there was no other cause of death...

"We still don't know if the state intends to charge Mr. Conrad with the death penalty," Munyer said by phone Sept. 17. "They haven't made that decision, at least as far as they have related to us."

The rules of patient confidentiality generally apply postmortem. But the lessons of certain deaths are too valuable to disappear into the ground with the deceased.

That’s the case with Amanda K. Russell, who was killed in the backyard of her Cuyahoga Falls’ home last month. Authorities have charged Jeffrey Conrad, a former boyfriend, who terrorized and physically abused Russell for years before, they say, finally killing her. That’s why Theresa Wilson, her therapist, called me Tuesday.

Three weeks after Russell was repeatedly stabbed, the therapist continues to relive a death that she agonizingly anticipated, yet had little idea how to prevent. Now Wilson wonders how she can help keep the world from forgetting Russell and, especially, the fact that the 40-year-old divorced mother did everything within her power to simply stay alive.

The man accused of fatally stabbing a Cuyahoga Falls woman dozens of times is now accused of stabbing a fellow inmate at the Summit County Jail in the head with a shank he fashioned from a plunger handle.

Jeffrey Conrad, 43, could potentially face attempted murder and felonious assault charges in connection with the stabbing...

Deputies said the sharpened plunger was still somewhat dull so McClelland's injuries were mostly shallow puncture wounds.

From October:

Jeffrey Conrad confessed to killing 23-year-old University of Albany student Erik Mitchell in 1997, authorities said. Investigators said he made the statement while confined to the Summit County Jail...

Conrad faces life in prison without parole eligibility for the Aug. 28, 2014 murder of Amanda Russell, 40. He was convicted during a trial in which he offered no defense... Conrad will be sentenced for that murder after his attempted aggravated murder case concludes. Conrad in that case is accused of stabbing a fellow inmate in the head with a shank fashioned from a toilet plunger.

Conrad also faces rape and kidnapping charges stemming from a 2006 cold case rape of a homeless woman in Cleveland. He was charged in that case on Oct. 8.

The Akron man who took the unusual step of not attending his own murder trial laughed and sneered as a judge sentenced him to life in prison for killing a Cuyahoga Falls mother.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Paul Gallagher did not respond to Jeffrey Conrad's profanity-laced courtroom antics as he sentenced him Wednesday to life plus an additional 11 years in prison, without the possibility of parole.
