State Police Try To ID Body Found Near Massena Friday

Although the ME says says in the article gogrannypop linked that the remains are too decomposed to be identified, LE is asking for info on anyone who has not been reported missing yet. I'm wondering how old these remains are.

One person I'm looking at is Colin Gillis, who disappeared from Tupper Lake in March 2012. That is more than 1½ hours away from Massena, but he was last seen walking along Rt. 3, which is connected to Massena by Rt. 30 to the east and Rt. 56 to the west. He was walking toward Piercefield, which would be heading west. He could have been picked up by a motorist going to Massena.

MASSENA - State police investigators spent approximately four hours Saturday morning in a wooded area just south of the Massena Industrial Park searching for clues as they seek to identify a body located there Friday afternoon.

...the partially wrapped body was discovered by someone walking in the woods Friday afternoon.

Oh no. I hope it's not Colin.

I can't really think of other recent MP's--from that area of NY besides Colin and Sharon Ross (https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22852/0/).

There's three threads on this on Topix. But, it's mostly people fighting.

For some reason, Sharon Ross isn't listed on the NYSP website. Watertown is about the same distance from Massena as is Tupper Lake and is also connected by a direct route -- Rt. 37, which runs along the St. Lawrence River. If she had met with foul play, I would think a perp could more easily dispose of a body in the river, unless he had taken her alive all the way to Massena. She went missing in December and it sounds to me like the state police think the corpse is that of someone who went missing more recently. But, I don't know if that's because local (Massena) LE are claiming "we don't have any current missing MP's" or if the ME has given state police a time frame for how long the person has been deceased. MOO

Here is the link for Colin's MP info:

Massena is the very heart of industry and commerce in New York State’s North Country region… a region that covers the six northernmost counties of the Empire State. Nearly 14,000 people call Massena home from our spot along the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River in the county of St. Lawrence – the largest county in New York State. Strategically positioned on the Canadian border, we enjoy a warm neighborly relationship with Cornwall, Ontario, Canada to our immediate north and a central location between the New York cities of Plattsburgh to our east and Watertown to our west.

The Massena Industrial Park is a 55 acre fully-serviced subdivision zoned for light, medium and heavy industrial use. The park, owned by the Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena, is located on the south side of the village and is bounded on the east side by South Main Street (NYS Rt. 420). Park infrastructure includes 8- and 10-inch water mains, 8-inch sewer mains, and a full-loop road accessing all lots. Natural gas services both residential and commercial users in the Massena area.

NYSP website describes their MPs:
"where the circumstances indicate a strong possibility of foul play and the victim is still missing."
LE has no indication that Sharon met with foul play, while it's certainly a possibility in Colin's case.

St. Lawrence Country doesn't seem to have too much experience with MPs and UIDs, even though they handled the Amish girls kidnapping pretty well. So I think they could just not know where to start with this UID.

Once we have more info this will be SO much easier.

The UID could also be Canadian. I'll look at some possibilities.

Massena also has a drug problem. Could the UID be part of a drug deal gone wrong?

The comment at the bottom is interesting.

I think it a Native American. JMO I don't think it is Colin or the girl from Watertown.

Lots of drug problems lately.

I just don't know. Even this quiet village is becoming so scary.

I think it's a good possibility that the body is associated with local drug activity. I doubt that the person was Canadian. If someone across the border committed murder, I think they would be more likely to dump the body in the river than to cross the border with a body to dispose of it. But, I guess it could be a Canadian who crossed the border to buy drugs. I don't know how difficult it would be to get through customs with drugs. I'm pretty certain customs between Canada-US is rather strict.

MOO

I have crossed the border in that area at least three times in the last 2 months. It really varies. So it wouldn't be impossible to get across.

This could also be gang associated. Because yes--gangs exist in Massena. :notgood:

The Native American connection is also a good thought. It's about 50 minutes from the reservation.

What was the body "partially wrapped" in? That is what I wonder. It might not matter, but I'm kind of curious.

Yeah, if it was a bedspread or something like that, it would almost certainly point to domestic violence, but if it was carpet or plastic, that could be anybody.

It's also possible that they don't know. But I mean, there's certainly a distinguishable difference between plastic and a bedspread.

I imagine they know, or at least have a good idea, but just aren't releasing the information yet.

Geez another story out of St Lawrence?? Colin comes to mind with me too. When the amish sisters where abducted I had looked to see who was missing in the area and don't recall seeing anyone else that was missing in St Lawrence Co. I believe there are a couple people missing from Jefferson Co (Watertown).
