Luzviminda Monreal, 47, of Laurel Maryland was found Sunday 8 AM when the day shift manager opened the store. She was found with traumatic injuries in a back store room, she had worked that evening. It is being investigated as a murder.

Luzviminda worked for Popeyes for 25 years, working her way up to night manager. She was known to water the tomato plants in front of the restaurant and the neighboring Pizza Boli's.

Friends called the victim Mena. LE estimates she was murdered around 1 AM. A cleaning crew was there at !:15 but did not notice anything. Maybe they didn't go in the stock room. She was beaten to the upper body. There are cameras all over that place so hopefully they will catch the killer quick. The video has pic of the store and Mena's tomato plants she planted at the Popeyes.

The intense investigation continues. Friends say the victim was a wife and mother who worked two jobs to provide for her family.

I was at this very Popeyes last Friday night. It's a bad area, lots of homeless druggie types hang around behind this store. I'm wondering why her family didn't report her missing before 8:00am or did she live alone?

Sorry, just read where she was a wife and mother. I work late and my Sig O calls if I'm ten minutes late.

According to WBAL news, an arrest has been made in this case. Details to be announced this morning.

Anne Arundel police have charged a 26-year-old Brooklyn Park restaurant employee with stabbing a co-worker to death over the weekend.

Moises Gomez-Castillo, of West Jeffrey Street in Brooklyn Park, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, among other charges, police said Tuesday morning. Gomez-Castillo is charged in the slaying of Luzviminda Monreal, 47, of Laurel, who was found Sunday morning inside a store room in the back of the Popeyes restaurant at 5317 Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park, police said.

Gomez-Castillo was being held with no bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Parole, a jail representative said.

Through the investigation it has been determined that the motive for this murder was robbery. Information and evidence has been obtained to suggest that Gomez-Costillo pre-planned the robbery based on his knowledge of the management operations of this business. Gomez-Castillo has worked for Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen off and on for about seven years.

During the investigation detectives interviewed numerous people and served search warrants at several locations. Numerous items of evidence have been recovered linking Gomez-Castillo to this robbery/murder, including an undisclosed amount of currency believed to be currency removed from the business during the robbery.

From July 2015:

On Monday, Gomez-Castillo was sentenced to life in prison for Monreal-Benny's death. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in May...

Anne Arundel Circuit Court Judge Paul F. Harris Jr. called the killing a "tragic, senseless murder for $2,000"...

According to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, he would be eligible for parole considerations after 15 years.
