MT - Ryan Silsby, 25, Ravalli County, 16 Aug 2014

    http://ravallirepublic.com/news/stat...9b212883a.html

Ryan Boyd Silsby, 25, is described as an accomplished woodsman and climber with an independent streak, said Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman.

Sheriff’s deputies and local search and rescue volunteers began searching for Silsby Tuesday after being contacted by the man’s family. They located his vehicle in the parking lot.

Silsby told his family he planned to camp in Blodgett Canyon on Aug. 16, with plans to return two days later. He’s not been seen since.
He is described at 6 foot, 1 inches tall, 165 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. May have been wearing a yellow shirt and green shorts on the day he disappeared.

"Once you get into the canyon, it's very thick and very rugged,” said Clay Silsby, Ryan’s dad.

Clay Silsby came from Oregon to look for his son. He says he usually talks to his son once a week. All five of his children are adventurous but he considers Ryan the most outgoing.

"He's an outdoorsy guy, he's very likeable, he's always got a big smile on his face. His friends count him as somebody they trust," said Clay Silsby.

Clay's a volunteer search and rescue pilot, but he's doing this search on foot.

NBC Montana was told camping gear was still inside Ryan's vehicle at the trailhead but his backpack and cellphone were not.

Ryan's an experienced climber, but his dad doesn't think he'd go alone.

Wow he's much different looking in this photo used with this article:

Hmmm, I also noticed the article is titled "Another Man Reported Missing in Ravalli County" (BBM)

    http://www.kpax.com/news/another-man...avalli-county/

Looking for info on the first missing person, I found:

He's the second person missing in Ravalli County. Fifty-six-year-old George Alex Baumann didn't return from a firewood-cutting trip last week

Family, friends, several dog teams and search and rescue continue to scour Blodgett Canyon for a missing Missoula man...

“There's a lot of undergrowth down off the trails, so this is a daunting search. We're doing our best to find Mr. Silsby and we hope to get him located soon, but this is again rugged terrain we're working in,” said Missoula County Sheriff Chris Hoffman.

Ryan has climbed mountains in Spain, Greece and Turkey, but his dad, Clay Silsby, doesn't think his son came to Blodgett to climb. "I think he just came up for a day hike," said Clay. "He didn't bring any climbing equipment, and he didn't take his camping equipment with him."

We're told Ryan is familiar with Blodgett and its terrain.

Searchers are combing every trace of the canyon they can. A team of four was hiking the trail along the creek through Blodgett Canyon. It's rocky country. "We're going to hike the creek down, because there's a lot of potholes and beaver dams," said Kalispell wildland firefighter Mark Ingraham, "just in case he might have slipped."

The search page for Ryan, they reported hearing cries for help, will be starting another search at 7am tomorrow. Wish my weekend wasn't already booked, I'd go help search.

He has been missing for 20 days. I hope he is still alive and able to cry for help but that seems like a very long time to be missing and have survived! Hopefully tomorrow they will find him!

There is another man missing as well, so it could be him yelling for help.

Unfortunately the FB post is not regarding HEARING cries for help from someone during the searching....it is SEEING requests for help posted and explaining that someone needs to contact specific places to get that help..

There is a poster with the initials LP who posted that she heard someone crying "help". She posted again 5 hours ago.

NBC Montana was told the chopper dropped off a search crew of three people in high elevation Saturday morning and they've been working their way down the mountain but haven't turned up any sign of Silsby. Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman says a base camp has also been set up in the area...

“This is big country. It's a place where, if you want to get lost, you sure can. Difficult to search, especially off trail, and that's what we've got here. We're doing our best with the resources that we have, and trying to make sure that no one else gets hurt while searching for Mr. Silsby," said Hoffman.

Hoffman says the searchers will reassess their options on Sunday. He says eventually, they'd like to bring in another team of search dogs.
