Two people are dead and a third is hospitalized after a stabbing in Bartlesville late Wednesday night.

Police have arrested 35-year-old Steven Lee Adair, the husband of one of the victims, on two complaints of first-degree murder and one complaint of aggravated assault and battery with a weapon.

The victims have been identified as 41-year-old Crystal Sue Adair, the wife of Steven Adair, and 23-year-old Charles Edward Lee, Crystal Adair's son. Police say Steven Adair stabbed his wife and his stepson along with his 15-year-old stepdaughter.

Captain Jay Hastings said police got a 911 call about a possible stabbing at the home in the 500 block of Sooner Road at 11:46 p.m. Officers surrounded the home after finding the stepson, Charles Edward Lee, 23, dead in the front yard. They found Steven Adair in the back yard and took him into custody.

Captain Hastings said officers forced their way into the home and found a strong odor of natural gas and several burning candles. After extinguishing the candles and turning off the gas, officers found the wife, Crystal Sue Adair, 41, in a bathroom with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a Bartlesville hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Captain Hastings said the stepdaughter was stabbed while defending her mother. He said she ran to a neighbor's home and called 911. The stepdaughter was taken to the Bartlesville hospital then flown by helicopter to a Tulsa hospital. Police said she is expected to survive her wounds.

According to neighbors the home had been the scene of multiple domestic violence issues in the recent past, Hastings said.

Very sad situation for the surviving daughter. She will have to face a terrible reality and testify to his brutality in court to put him away for life. She is so young and her life is forever changed. :( Breaks my heart.

I noticed when the was hugging her (the stepdaughter) in a photo on her mother's FB page, it appeared somehow wrong. It wasn't where his hands were placed or anything, but something about it bothered me. Hope they check deeper into what was really going on in that house.

I grew up with Crystal. Very, very sad situation.

District Attorney Kevin Buchanan filed a bill of particulars announcing he will seek capital punishment for Steven Lee Adair, who is charged in the Sept. 3 deaths of Crystal Sue Adair, 41, and Charles Edward Lee, 23...

Buchanan described the murder of Crystal Adair as “especially heinous, atrocious and cruel” as defined by statutes, thereby requiring capital punishment. She suffered 41 knife wounds and likely was conscious during each one, according to the bill of particulars.

Another factor in the death penalty being sought is the risk to others from the gas stove and lighted candles, which could have led to the deaths of law enforcement officers if the home had blown up, the document says.

Stephen Lee Adair was slated to go before a Washington County jury this month, but waived his right to a trial and pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and attempted first-degree arson...

Judge Curtis DeLapp sentenced Adair on Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole on each of the two murder counts, and 10 years in prison for kidnapping, assault and attempted arson.
