At least three people including a pregnant woman and a child were killed on Thursday as the Zimbabwean government continues to destroy what it says are illegal houses, Amnesty International said.

It said the deaths occurred during the past 48 hours of destruction at the Porta Farm informal settlement near Harare and the eviction of some 10,000 residents.

It called on President Robert Mugabe's government to immediately halt the campaign of evictions and destruction that has left at least 300,000 people homeless.

Two other children died earlier this month as their home was being bulldozed.
