The Cumberland County coroner says Mahoney died of multiple traumatic injuries sometime in the early morning hours of September 7th, but it’s not exactly clear how the crime happened.

Stephanie Scott testified that she wanted Mahoney to feel pain for all the physical and emotional pain he has caused her as well as her own daughter... Scott says Mahoney choked her and sexually assaulted her multiple times before the night of his death.

Scott testified that she had lived at the home and in Carlisle for two months, moving from Brooklyn, New York, and renting out a room from Mahoney...

Scott said Mahoney was drunk, sleeping on the couch, when Fason turned off the lights, and she began tying Mahoney up with twine from a clothesline in the backyard. She said Mahoney began to struggle and Smith helped tie him tighter. The three then beat him with their fists, before stripping him and assaulting him with a power cord of a computer, she said.

Police said the beating lasted for 45 minutes, before the three wrapped Mahoney in several sheets and put him into his vehicle, driving him to the area near the Giant parking lot, and leaving him on the side of the road. Scott said Mahoney was still alive at the time...

Stephanie V. Scott, 37, Duane J. Fason Jr., 18, and Kaysean J. Smith, 20, who are all facing charges in connection with the killing of 45-year-old James Mahoney, pleaded not guilty at their arraignments...

They have been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, tampering with evidence, simple assault and multiple counts of conspiracy. Judge M.L. Ebert scheduled the three for pre-trial conferences March 4 and trial on March 16, though continuances are likely.

Duane J. Fason Jr., 19, was sentenced by Cumberland County Judge M.L. Ebert to 12 months to 5 years of incarceration...

When Fason pleaded guilty last week to one count of involuntary manslaughter, Chief Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Birbeck told the court Fason had already served 14 months, which is more than his minimum sentence. Fason will be released on parole...

Scott and Smith both previously pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. Scott is serving 7 to 14 years, and Smith is serving 10 to 20 years.
