TN - Torhonda Cathy, 33, fatally shot, Memphis, 8 Sept 2014
Investigators don't believe the shooting at the Target located at 601 Colonial Road is random, but rather part of an ongoing domestic situation...
"I heard the gunshots, and I stopped," he said. "She went out the passenger side door. She almost ran into me. She hesitated to not run into me, and that was when he shot her the last time... Twice in the back at point blank range."
Nelson took pictures as the shooter jumped in a little white hatchback and sped away, he says.
During her lunch hour on Monday afternoon, Cathey went to Target at 601 Colonial Road. As she was getting into her car to leave, she was shot three times... Cathey was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday...
Memphis police are still searching for the man they believe killed Cathey. After a five-hour standoff outside Ellis' house, police came out empty handed. Police believe it is her ex-boyfriend, Ronald Ellis, who is a Memphis firefighter...
Ellis was due in court in Olive Branch Tuesday morning after an October 8, 2013 arrest on a charge of malicious mischief over $500, domestic violence-simple assault, stalking, and driving on expired tags. Records list the victim in that case as Torhonda Cathey.
The man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend in an East Memphis Target parking lot has been captured near the Georgia-Florida state line.
Camden County, Ga. deputies chased Ronald Ellis, a Memphis Fire Department firefighter, in the car he reportedly sped away in after the shooting.
Deputies used a stun gun on Ellis. He is now in the hospital.
