A California man tormented his ex-girlfriend with text messages about her missing dog, including ones that convinced her he’d cooked and served it to her, Redding police said.

Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh, 34, was arrested Thursday evening, two days after he left the paws of his ex-girlfriend’s Pomeranian, named Bear, on her front porch, police Sgt. Todd Cogle said... Watenpaugh told investigators he didn’t cook or kill the dog, though he admitted to sending the texts and placing Bear’s paws at the woman’s home, Cogle said.

He said the victim also told police Watenpaugh had previously beaten her during their relationship, and twice kept her from leaving.

Watenpaugh was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of domestic violence, stalking, false imprisonment, and animal cruelty. Officers will seek additional charges for the weapons violations. His bail is set at $250,000.

That guy needs to be locked up and NEVER let out. In fact, I think he should get the death penalty. The world would be better off without him.

Any bets he won't get any jail time??

He'll kill her when he gets out.

I completely agree. SOB should be shot on sight.

Michael Scheibli, the attorney for Watenpaugh, said the body of dog that Watenpaugh allegedly killed was recovered. Scheibli said the body is currently in a freezer and will be used as evidence for the trial next year in Shasta County

District Attorney Brandon Storment said they tested the meat leftover from the case and it was determined to be "pulled pork," not dog meat...

Schiebli said there is no evidence Watenpaugh took the dog, because his client found the dog dead on the street after it was allegedly hit by a car. "I didn't hear anything that there was a crime. There is no crime to have dog paws of your dead dog that you find on the side of the road," Scheibli said "The testimony today was, he told the officer he did so he (Watenpaugh) could give her closure after they made up, to do it for a reasonable purpose. After they made up, he was going to go, 'Here they are. He was really hit by a car. I'm sorry.'"

Ugh, defense attorneys... Well, I guess this one didn't have much to work with.

So, assuming he found the dog dead. He still harassed this woman and emotionally tortured her with it. I doubt he found the dead dog but this is one twisted man to do what he did even so.

August 2015 - found guilty. He did kill the dog:(

the
Defendant took the Confidential Victim’s dog. He later killed it and left the dog’s paws on the front porch along with a note directing the Confidential Victim to burn in Hell.
