Jeffersonville Police Department officers were met at the door of the home by Oberhansley, 33, at 10 a.m., after a after a friend of Blanton’s had requested police check on her condition. According to the document, officers noticed “fresh” injuries to Oberhansley’s hand and found his responses evasive.

“Due to Oberhansley’s behavior, coupled with his injuries, him being evasive in identifying himself, and the nature of the call, officers attempted to conduct a pat down for weapons... Officers located a knife with a brass knuckle handle and the blade extended in Oberhansley’s back pocket. The knife had blood on it.”

Police then entered to the residence to complete the welfare check on Blanton. “Officers observed the hallway bathroom was covered in blood. A tent was covering the bathtub... When the portion of the tent nearest the faucet was pulled back, officers observed Blanton, deceased, with a large portion of the front of her skull missing.”

A Clark County prosecutor said he is furious because the suspect should have never been released from jail. Joseph Oberhansley, 33, is no stranger to the law. He's a convicted killer who served time in Utah for killing his girlfriend. Two months ago he was out on parole and led police on a chase in Clark County.

Clark County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said Oberhansley is a dangerous man. "Somebody with this individual's background, clearly and objectively needs to be in jail when he is committing crimes," said Mull.

But Oberhansley wasn't in jail Thursday morning. Instead, Jeffersonville police said he was inside a Locust Street home.

It's possible Oberhandsley shouldn't have been allowed out on the street. Back in 1998, he pled guilty to shooting this girlfriend Sabrina Elder in West Valley City. He also shot his own mother and then tried to kill himself, but he wasn't convicted of murder. Instead, he got 15 years for manslaughter. "I thought the sentencing was too light. You know, because it was a plea down. To me, it was first degree premeditated murder," said Alfred Irmer, the victim’s grandfather, back in 2000.

Oberhandsley was released from prison early in 2012. He moved to Indiana and, while on parole, he was charged with strangling a person. And this past July, he was arrested after a high speed chase and illegally carrying a gun. But none of that information got back to the Utah parole board.

"Certainly if he had any new charges or arrests while on parole the board would've wanted to know that," said Greg Johnson, Administrative Coordinator, Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. Right now the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole is looking into why they weren't notified of Oberhandsley's arrests.

In a probable cause affidavit filed Monday, Oberhansley admitted to police that he broke into Blanton's home and stabbed her multiple times, killing her.

The affidavit said after Oberhansley killed Blanton, he removed parts of her skull and brain, heart, and part of a lung. The document said Oberhansley told detectives he cooked and ate the organs.

In court on Monday, Oberhansley told the judge that police have the wrong guy because his name is Zeus Brown and he doesn't know if he's a U.S. citizen. Police and prosecutors said that's the first time he brought up that name.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police were called to Blanton's home twice last Thursday. The first time was at 2:50 a.m.; Oberhansley was upset he couldn't get inside the home he shared with Blanton because she had changed the locks. Police said they told Oberhansley to leave.

They returned to the home shortly after 10 a.m. after a co-worker reported Blanton hadn't shown up for work. Police said Oberhansley answered the front door and said he didn't know where Blanton was. Police said in the affidavit that they saw what appeared to be a fresh injury to his hand...

Police said Oberhansley initially denied knowing what happened to Blanton's body but later said he broke into the home and into the bathroom where she had locked herself, the affidavit said. He said he struck her several times with a knife and used a jigsaw to cut open her skull, according to the affidavit.

Since he moved to Indiana right after he was paroled, was Ms. Blanton a pen pal with him while he was in prison? Or perhaps he was originally from Indiana? This guy needs to be in a setting where he must take his medicine. Period. RIP Ms. Blanton.

A woman found dead in her Jeffersonville home last week had posted bond for her accused killer on previous charges just over a month earlier, Clark County prosecutor Steve Stewart said Tuesday...

Mull said Oberhansley's bond for the car chase charges had originally been set at $25,000 full-cash. But that was later reduced "without my knowledge or approval," he said, and Oberhansley was released for about $500...

The deputy Clark County prosecutor who agreed to the reduced bond, Benjamin Read, left the office Sept. 5 for private practice law, Stewart said.

The answer is simple. He's on parole from Utah for murder. He got arrested in Indiana for assault and failure to yield (not minor crimes, but not major felonies either). Prosecutor asked Utah if they wanted him back for the parole violation. They declined. Its utah's parole violation, not Indiana's. Indiana cant Charge him with that. Prosecutor takes the assault and FTY to the low level criminal judge who is a classic '"ah shucks", overly lenient, "everybody's best friend", "everybody loves him" but not the strictest guy in the world' judge, and says "this guy is dangerous, lets set the bail high enough that we can hang on to him..." Next day a different prosecutor, who may not have even had the entire file in front of him, looks at the relatively minor charges, meets with the defense attorney and they agree to $500. They go before Judge nice guy who doesnt say "uh. I met with another prosecutor yesterday who made a point of asking for a high bond in this matter- maybe you should check with him first?" Instead he grants the $500 and lets him out. Girlfriend pays it. She finds out hes a psycho... dumps him... He kicks in her back door... Kills her and eats her brain,..

Joseph Oberhansley walked into a Utah prison 14 years ago, a bullet lodged in his brain, and chose two words to tattoo across his back: "murderous deeds"...

Oberhansley, 33, once told a parole board he believed the bullet in his brain calmed him. Some in his own family said it made him a monster, and relatives warned in Utah that he should be kept locked away...

He told Blanton about his past but he was vague, said her friend, Tonya Graham Davalos. He said he was just a kid when it happened and he had changed. She loved him. "She was trying to give the man a second chance," said Blanton's father, Darry Harbin. He seemed at first like an ordinary guy; he helped Harbin build a deck. But her friends would grow suspicious...

If this is in Clark County Kentucky, that's just a couple of hours from me. This one truly made me sick.

It's Clark County indiana... Just north of Louisville Kentucky.

The trial of a Southern Indiana man accused of killing and cannibalizing his former girlfriend has been delayed until June 2017.

(...)

A trial date had been scheduled for August 2016. The new trial date is set for June 12, 2017, in Clark County.

The hearing Thursday was supposed to tackle defense motions to suppress evidence and dismiss a rape charge against Oberhansley. A hearing on those motions was rescheduled for Oct. 20.

His trial is set for 3 years after his crime. I know everyone is entitled to a fair trial but this is crazy.
