NY - Amy Bradstreet, 44, stabbed to death in her Cazenovia home, 1 Sept 2014
Amy Bradstreet, 44, was found dead Labor Day at her Cazenovia home. Her live-in boyfriend and father of the two boys - Stephen Schumejda - has been charged with stabbing her multiple times at their 4481 East Lake Road home in Cazenovia...
DeBaise said she and her friends all knew Bradstreet and Schumedja, and they seemed like a happy couple. "We didn't see any relationship problems,'' DeBaise said. "It seems out of character for Steve."
Schumejda then fled with his and Bradstreet's children, ages 3 1/2 years and 18 months - who were asleep in the home at the time - and then drove to his mother's home in Margaretville in Delaware County, state police said. He called police around 8 a.m. to report the stabbing, and was subsequently arrested, police said.
Schumedja remains in the Madison County jail without bail after being charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. His case is awaiting grand jury action.

Betcha' anything and IMHO only, he fled with the two little ones to his mom's, so he could control who has custody of the kids. He most likely doesn't want her family to have the kids. But, they can still try to get custody through the court. With these guys, it's always about control. fran

Stephen Schumedja, who admitted stabbing to death his girlfriend, Amy Bradstreet, on Labor Day 2014, sobbed in court today as he apologized for his actions.
"I'm sorry,'' he said. "I'm infinitely sorry.
"I loved her so much,'' he said, at times barely able to speak.. "We planned a fairy tale life together. "
He was sentenced to 25 years for first-degree manslaughter with five years post-release supervision, and a sentence of 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 years for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The judge ordered the sentences to be served consecutively and issued orders of protection for the couple's two young sons."May God forgive you,'' Bonnie Bradstreet said to Schumedja in the courtroom. "The person we thought we knew would never have done this."
When talking about Schumedja, Amy Bradstreet would always say "he rocks,' her mother said. "She had total faith in you, and so did we."
