Thirty-nine-year-old Carmela Knight of Pickering, who lived at the home at 1164 Pebblestone Crescent, was found inside the garage after a fire was extinguished on Sept. 15.

Police were called to the home just before 8 p.m. to find the attached two-car garage fully engulfed in flames.

A post mortem showed obvious signs of trauma to the victim’s body, leading police to deem her death a murder.

Third man charged in connection with 2014 murder of Pickering woman

In February, David Knight, the victim’s husband, and Graham McDonald were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.
Police say a Canada-wide warrant was issued in March for a man who previously lived in Ajax. The suspect, Matthew Knight, the brother of the victim’s husband, was recently arrested in Florida and was deported to Canada. Police say he was taken into custody when he arrived at Pearson International Airport on Tuesday night.

''The brutal murder of a Pickering woman and the police investigation that brought her killers to justice is the focus of an NBC TV news program that airs Friday night, Oct. 28.
“Fire and Ice,” which airs at 10 p.m. Friday on Dateline NBC, details the murder of Carmela Knight and an elaborate investigation that eventually led to the convictions of her husband, David Knight, and an accomplice on first-degree murder charges.''

''During his trial in Oshawa, jurors heard that Knight, seeking to start a new life with his mistress in Florida, hired a man to kill Carmela, who had initiated divorce proceedings after finding out about the affair.
The killer, Graham MacDonald, ambushed Carmela, the mother of two boys, as she returned to her Pebblestone Crescent home from work on the afternoon of Sept. 15, 2014, beating and strangling her to death.''
