A Gwinnett County woman allegedly beat her friend in the head, strangled her to death with an Ethernet cord, and then dumped her body at an abandoned park in July 2013, according to police.

But it would be three months before anyone found the body of 20-year-old Kayla Weil. A cleaning crew found Weil’s remains on Oct. 24, 2013, in a bathroom at the park, which had been closed to the public.

On Thursday, the woman accused of killing Weil appeared in a Gwinnett courtroom, Channel 2 Action News reported. Amy Leann McGarity, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, false imprisonment, and kidnapping in connection to Weil’s death.

Weil’s body was found wrapped in a blanket inside a bathroom in a closed area of Chestnut Ridge Park in Hall County last October. Investigators believe she was killed three months before at McGarity’s Buford home...

He tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish the two women had been close friends at one point and the motive behind the murder is unknown.

She was a very troubled young woman. :(

A Gwinnett County grand jury passed down an indictment charging three people — Amy Leann McGarity, Cody Jackson Williams and Cedric Laquay English — with various crimes. All three are believed to have played roles in the 2013 death of 20-year-old Kayla Jeanne Weil...

According to police and testimony in a preliminary hearing following McGarity’s arrest, Weil was detained inside the home at 20 Cloud St. between about July 17, 2013, and Aug. 4, 2013. The alleged reason why is unclear...

Williams claimed that he and McGarity smoked methamphetamine together before she pulled a gun on him, ordered him to bind together Weil’s hands. Weil was “unresponsive” at the time due to drug use, police said. Williams said Weil later woke up and attempted to escape before McGarity hit her over the head with a gun. Weil begged for her life but was taken to a bathroom, where McGarity allegedly ordered Williams to retrieve an ethernet cable. According to Williams, McGarity then strangled Weil with the cord.

I sure wish there was more info on this case. I think about this poor girl all the time. It seems as if no one cares about her at all. I don't know her but I care. I've looked for an update ever since she was found. Me and my friends used to go swimming in that abandoned campground without permission. It was a very special place for us. I hope she gets the justice she deserves. I pray for her soul and the soul of the horrible woman who took away the life of such a young girl. It seemed like she was in so much pain. May she rest in peace.

If anyone knows anything at all, please share. I'd love to know her story and what lead to her being murdered. It's so sad that no one even noticed she was gone for 2 months. No matter what she did in her life, she did not deserve to die alone, begging for her life. She deserves attention the same as anyone else.

Minutes before her death, Weil begged for her life. Then she gave up and said, “Tell my grandmother I love her,” according to the detective.

I supose this is the part that gets to me the most. She was just 20 years old. She still had a chance to make up for her mistakes until it was stolen from her. I just want to know why they did it. What was so bad that they had to kill her? Hopefully it will all come out in trial.

Two long-anticipated murder trials are set to begin Monday at the Gwinnett County courthouse.

The most widely-known of the two is for Amy McGarity, the so-called ringleader in the brutal killing of 20-year-old Kayla Weil in a drug house on Buford’s Cloud Street in 2013...

In the other case, McGarity’s co-defendant Cody Williams, who claimed he’d been coerced by her to participate in the killing, was convicted last month... McGarity’s other co-defendant, Cedric English, heads to trial Monday with her.

For years, Cody Williams lied through his teeth... Then, in March, he asked a jury to find him not guilty of murder — and he lost. On Wednesday, Williams, a former National Guardsman, acknowledged his lies during the trial of his co-defendant, Amy McGarity...

Nigel Lush, the lead prosecutor, said in court that Williams will get life in prison with the possibility of parole...

Williams said he took Weil in to his trailer near Lake Lanier some months before the killing. They were friends with similar problems. Weil was addicted to drugs, stressed and depressed. She had nowhere else to go.

Amy McGarity, on trial for killing 20-year-old Kayla Weil in a drug house on Cloud Street, was found guilty on all counts, including malice murder and felony murder, according to Chief Assistant District Attorney Dan Mayfield.

Once the jury sentenced McGarity to life without parole plus five years consecutive, Cedric English plead guilty after he was accused of concealing the death. He was sentenced to three years in prison followed by seven years on probation.

I knew her. A friend introduced us at a pool party. I had a total crush on Amy several years before this all happened. I thought she was hot, confident and tough. And unattainable.. ya know like out of my league or whatever. But we shared a couple of days after she wound up pregnant, Daddy splits and all, she freaking out and vulnerable.. it was my chance to impress her. I urged her to keep the baby, and she did. I didn't get any further with her because somehow I couldn't get past the friend zone. His name is blaze. I wonder where he is now.
I wonder sometimes what would have been if I had gotten involved with her further. A part of me thinks maybe this whole thing would have turned out different, maybe Kayla would be alive. But then, maybe I'm just lucky to have not gotten involved any more than I did..
