Brenna Winter is accused of attempted murder, after authorities said she admitted to trying to suffocate her 3-month-old inside a hospital...

Winter first denied intentionally hurting her daughter, but then authorities said she began to break down during the interview with police. She even admitted she was trying to get attention by almost suffocating her child...

The detective said, "She's really suffocating right? And, that was your intent, because you can't handle a baby? Is that right? Is that a yes?" Winter replied, "Yes."

For the first time, authorities have released video from a teen mom's interview with police, after they accused her of suffocating her newborn in the hospital to get attention...

She remains in the Orange County jail, charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and battery by strangulation.

The baby was placed in foster care.

Brenna Winter pleaded no contest to charges of attempted first degree murder and aggravated child abuse before Circuit Judge Mike Murphy.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 16, 2014.

Circuit Judge Mike Murphy sentenced Winter under a statute allowing an "indeterminate" sentence. The minimum under that statute is six months in prison, with the maximum set by Murphy at 10 years...

Murphy said he will recommend Winter serve at least three years in prison. She had faced a maximum of 60 years. He also sentenced her to 20 years' probation, to begin after her release..

Assistant Public Defender Sean Landers asked the court to sentence Winter to probation or house arrest, citing a history of "chronic, low-grade depression."
"Ms. Winter is a very young, impressionable, immature woman who has… significant mental health issues," Landers argued.

He cited an episode when Winter was eight months pregnant, when she was involuntarily hospitalized under the state's Baker Act for "punching herself in the stomach." A doctor who studied the young mother indicated postpartum depression may have played a role in her crimes, Landers said.
