BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - A state appeals court last week upheld the conviction and 297-year prison sentence for an Irondale man who assaulted a 14-year-old girl walking home from a school event.
In June 2013, Charles Tyson Hall, 27, was convicted of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and third-degree robbery. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Laura Petro sentenced him to 99 years for each count, to be served consecutively.
Because Hall has prior felony convictions, he was sentenced under the state's habitual offender act, which allows Alabama judges to impose an enhanced sentence.
