It was a gruesome discovery on July 29. The body of Rebecca Demuth, 23, was found under a Gentilly bridge. The FBI has made an arrest in the case.

Demuth's body was discovered in the 4200 block of France Road under a bridge near the intersection of Almonaster. Police state that she was shot several times.

Following a several month investigation, the FBI's Violent Task Force arrested 35-year-old Anthony Eugene. Eugene was arrested on Wednesday and a search warrant was executed at his Metairie residence.

When a woman's bullet-riddled body was found under the France Road overpass in Desire on the sweltering morning of July 29, New Orleans police initially had few clues with which to work...

But when Demuth's body finally was moved, those tasked with solving the crime got the investigatory break they needed, according to police. Detectives found Demuth's cell phone, which they said yielded a trove of electronic data that eventually led police and FBI agents to the Metairie apartment of Anthony Eugene III...

Police found Eugene and Demuth were linked as co-defendants in a Jefferson Parish heroin possession case stemming from their arrests on May 25. Demuth had pleaded not guilty July 14, about two weeks before her death, according to Jefferson Parish court records. Eugene pleaded not guilty in that case Aug. 11.
