Jonta Bishop is accused of shooting and killing James Deneen Jr. Police said it happened in the driveway of Kimberlee and Nickolas Forbes’ home. Neither Nickolas or his mother, Kimberlee, are facing charges of homicide, but they are facing charges for allegedly helping Bishop clean up the scene. Police said the Forbeses and another man, Domineck Gillespie, not only cleaned up a puddle of blood, but also burned paper towels and clothes to get rid of the evidence.

Police said Bishop and Gillespie allegedly put Deneen’s body in a trunk of a car and drove to a wooded area off of Tiger Valley Road, just outside Hyndman, where police said they lit the car on fire.

Deneen’s family stood outside court Wednesday hoping to get answers... “They're at a loss for words. They want answers,” Higgins said. “It’s still an ongoing investigation. We don’t have a whole lot of information about a motive or exactly what led up to (the) killing. We are certain we have the right people in custody and that they're charged appropriately.”

While Higgins and the police have remained close lipped about a possible motive and the relationship between the two men, Martini's testimony revealed a possible drug deal that led to Deneen's death. At various points in interviews, Bishop claimed he was either selling Deneen drugs or buying drugs from him, she said.

Higgins said the deal involved marijuana, but he declined to discuss the amount of the drug involved or what could have turned the exchange into a murder.

"Marijuana was the catalyst to all this, so to speak," he said.

Bedford County murder trial delayed
The Bedford County murder trial of Jonta Bishop, accused of shooting 36-year-old James Edward Deneen in a drug deal turned violent, has been pushed back from its original date next Tuesday, officials said.

According to a representative at the Bedford County Court Administrator’s Office, Bishop, 21, of Cumberland, Md., won’t face trial next week as initially planned.

A trial might be scheduled for March with jury selection in late February, but that isn’t guaranteed.

Murder suspect pleads guilty
Jonta St. Clair Bishop pleaded guilty Wednesday to the 2014 Hyndman-area murder of James Deneen Jr., bringing the nearly three-year case to a close with a life sentence.

Bishop, 21, of Cumberland, Md., avoids a trial and a possible death sentence with the murder plea, which carried a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins had sought a death-penalty case if Bishop’s charges went to trial, with jury selection scheduled as soon as next week.
