JeffCo escapee back in custody after crash

"JEFFERSON COUNTY - A Jefferson County escapee who has been on the run for nearly two weeks is back in custody after he crashed a stolen car trying to flee in Boulder Thursday.

Travis Sandlin, 32, was staying at a vacant home, which was for sale in the 3900 block of Sunshine Canyon Drive in Boulder. When SWAT tried to apprehend him around 8:30 a.m., Sandlin tried to flee the scene in a stolen car.

"He was exiting the house, got in his vehicle, was backing out of the driveway," Jefferson County Sheriff Ted Mink said. "That area is kind of mountainous. The driveway is very steep, and the terrain there is pretty rough."

It was at that point, Mink said, that Sandlin saw the authorities' armored vehicle and rammed into it. He finally rolled the stolen car several times in an embankment in the 2600 block of Sunshine Canyon Drive. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time."

"We had a lot of people out looking for him in the last couple of days," Mink said. "He had committed several felonies in the arena of stealing cars, six of which we can identify he actively stole during his time when he was out."

Sandlin escaped from an outdoor recreation area at the Jefferson County Jail October 5.

On Wednesday, Sandlin was spotted at a Lakewood gas station, but he drove up to 100 mph and was able to allude arrest.

"It's a relief to get him off the street, to get him back into custody, and he's going to be facing a lot of additional charges other than the original charges he was here for," Sandlin said. "So hopefully, he'll be in for a long period of time."

The sheriff's office said this was the first escape from that jail in 27 years."

Kidnapper skips out of trial on lunch break

"DENVER - The Denver district attorney says a dangerous felon is on the run and a judge presiding over his case could be to blame.

Clifton Williams, 40, didn't come back from lunch during his kidnapping and assault trial Tuesday. He was free to leave the courthouse because he was out on bond.

Even in his absence, the Denver jury still found him guilty of second-degree kidnapping, attempted sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and third-degree assault."

Also re: the above post (post #13):

"We need to get this man back into custody and hold him accountable for what he did to this woman," Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said. "We're very concerned that Mr. Williams is at large, because Mr. Williams is a habitual criminal, and we've convicted him now of grabbing a woman, stalking a woman on the street, grabbing her, tasing her, and trying to sexually assault her. He's dangerous."

Williams is a convicted felon with a long criminal history and a stint in prison."
