Search Expanded for Missing Becker County Woman
Becker County authorities are asking for help in finding a woman, whose family is very concerned for her safety. Melissa Eagleshield, also known as Mitz, was last seen Sunday along Highway 34 and 37. Investigators say a search dog tracked a scent to an area just northeast of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. That is where a helicopter will return tomorrow along with people walking, on ATV'S and on horseback.Any one with information about Eagleshield's whereabouts are asked to call authorities at 218-847-4222.

Three days of searching and still no sign of a missing Detroit Lakes woman. Melissa Eagleshield went missing Sunday night and was last seen in the area near Becker County Highways 34 and 37. "We're all working together,” said Sgt. Todd Glander with the Becker County Sheriff's Department. Sgt. Glander said the search area continues to expand. They are looking at an expanse south of Island Lake and County Road 126, which is northeast of Detroit Lakes. "We're coordinating with, obviously we've got the White Earth Police for a command post, several agencies involved, fire departments, local fire departments,” Glander explained.

Vigil planned for missing woman; sheriff asks hunters to keep eyes open in woods
The search for missing Becker County woman Melissa “Mitz” Eagleshield has been officially called off, according to police, but friends and family are far from done. A vigil is being held for the 42-year-old Detroit Lakes woman who was last seen in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 5. “The unknown is so hard,” said Eagleshield’s mother, Linda Anderson, who lives down by the Twin Cities. “It’s probably harder than anything that we could find out. It’s hard on her siblings, her children, and it’s so hard on her grandchildren.” The candlelight vigil is being held Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Detroit Lakes and will also feature a balloon release and prayer. Family has also set up a $1,500 reward for information leading to Eagleshield’s whereabouts, along with an account to help keep the search active, if nothing else informally. “I know there are friends and family who are still going out there and driving around the area looking,” said Anderson, who says she doesn’t know what to believe about her daughter’s disappearance. She says “Mitz” is a very sweet person who never has anything bad to say about anybody. “So I can’t imagine who would want to hurt her,” said Anderson, who knows foul play is a possibility, as is the chance Eagleshield left and possibly got lost. At this point, however, zero evidence has surfaced to point investigators or family in any direction. It remains truly a mystery.

As per the NamUs profile, "EAGLESHIELD is known to accept rides from anyone who offers her rides."

I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a euphemism for something.

Missing Minnesotan Melissa Eagleshield's disappearance a mystery
Family and friends of missing Detroit Lakes woman Melissa “Mitz” Eagleshield celebrated her 43rd birthday without her recently. Balloons were released from the Veteran’s Memorial Park in remembrance of Eagleshield, who went missing in October. She was last seen in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 5 at a residence along County Road 126 near Island Lake.

The owner of that residence, a male acquaintance of Eagleshield’s, told police she left his house sometime likely between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., but didn’t know if she left on foot or if somebody picked her up.

Authorities have said in the past that they have no reason to doubt the man.

Eagleshield’s family, however, is left not knowing exactly what to believe. It’s been four and a half months of waiting and wondering.

Search still on for Becker County woman missing since October
The search continued Thursday for missing Becker County woman Melissa “Mitz” Eagleshield. Becker County Sheriff’s Investigator Jon Peterson and Boat and Water Officer Adam Douglas spent most of the day Thursday scouring the wooded, swampy area between Height of Land Lake and Island Lake.

They searched on foot, with ATVs, and Peterson went up in a Border Patrol helicopter. He said the visibility was pretty good, since leaves and foliage haven’t come in yet. “We could see a bucket on the ground. We could see ducks on the lake,” he said, but there was no sign of Eagleshield.

The 42-year-old Detroit Lakes woman was last seen in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 5. Authorities say they believe she walked away from a friend’s residence she was staying at along County Road 126 just south of Island Lake, likely between the hours of 3 and 5 a.m.

“We’re now looking for anything out of the ordinary, a piece of clothing or a shoe,” said Sheriff Todd Glander.
