This was a particularly nasty and brutal crime scene, LE think it may have been personal and that the victim may have known the killer/s.

Lengthy article from May, 16, 2013..

"The 54-year-old man’s body was found by an employee of his scrap metal and pop machine repair business.
“The crime scene was fairly extensive and horrific at the time,” said Det. Sgt. John Mans of the Halton Regional Police Service Homicide and Regional Fraud Unit.
Henttonen, who was estranged from his wife, died of multiple stab wounds from a large knife, believed to have come from his apartment. Mans said it’s quite possible whoever killed him may have been injured.
“There was blood everywhere,” he said. “There was hair, there were fingerprints. Everything you can possibly think of was gathered. To date that evidence has not identified who the person was.”
Some witnesses had reported that Henttonen had recently won a couple thousand dollars in the lottery. Mans said money was taken when he was killed, but it’s unknown if that was the sole motive or due to an “opportunistic moment.”
There was other things in the apartment police believe would have been removed if robbery were the only motive, he said.
Shortly after the murder, Hay said there was no sign of forced entry, the apartment wasn’t ransacked, and it didn’t look like there had been any struggle or fight.
Henttonen’s green 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was found abandoned at Mountainview Rd. and Dominion Gardens Dr. two days later on the morning of Sunday, May 19. Some witnesses said they had seen two people in the truck as it fled Henttonen’s apartment"

New technology might help find the killer via the hand print left behind at the crime scene.
Link includes video showcasing palm print database.

"Halton Regional Police's Det. Dave Banks knows which old print he'll be submitting to the new database, a palm impression linked to the unsolved murder of Paavo Paul Henttonen.

"I have a palm print from that particular case from the vehicle that was used in that particular homicide and recovered from the inside surface of the door."

Henttonen was stabbed to death inside his home in Georgetown, Ont., in 2002.

"With the new RCMP database involving palms we're hopeful that once this crime scene impression gets put into the database that any new people getting arrested or re-arrested and their palm prints taken and put into that database, we'll get a match on it," he said."

rbbm, just a thought, wondering if the dna could be matched to anyone in Finland?

16 years later, police still don't know who killed Paavo Henttonen

"To this day, police have few details about who killed Paavo Henttonen.

It was the cleaning staff that found the 54-year-old man stabbed to death in the entrance of his Georgetown apartment on the morning of May 17, 2002.

Police say he took a taxi to his apartment, a converted space inside an old industrial building on Rosetta Street, after spending the evening at the Barber Towne Pub."
"Henttonen was in the business of purchasing and flipping industrial food processing machinery. He would purchase equipment from closing factories and facilities, resell what he could, repair vending machines and sell the rest as scrap metal.

After the murder, Pentti says Henttonen’s business partner cleaned out his warehouse, which was attached to the apartment inside the industrial building. He says it was full of equipment and metal.

“I don’t know who it was, but he came in there and cleaned everything out,” said Pentti. “I don’t know what kind of relationship they had.”
"Henttonen moved to Canada from Finland in the 1970s with his parents, two sisters and brother, Pentti. The family purchased a plot of land near Sudbury and raised the children near Thunder Bay.

Paavo moved to Toronto, and also served in the navy."
"They have the DNA evidence, it’s just the matter of matching it.”
