A 44-year-old Lorain woman was found dead in a wooded area near the intersection of Colorado and Fillmore avenues Wednesday.

Police identified the woman Thursday as Rebecca Jean Newsome. Police said evidence at the scene suggested she died elsewhere and her body was taken to the wooded area and dumped.

Her cause of death has not been determined.

After interviewing 20 people and searching four homes in the days after she was found, police have determined that she was last seen alive around 3:30 a.m. on Washington Avenue between 21st Street and 11th Street, according to Lorain Police Capt. Roger Watkins.

Officers have collected video surveillance from stores in the area that Watkins said “of importance” to the case.

“We were eliminating potential suspects and running down leads,” Watkins said of the interviews and house searches.
