A suspect has been charged in a fire that killed six people, four of them children younger than 7, in McKeesport last fall. The fire on Express Alley on Oct. 18 was intentionally set, Allegheny County police said Friday.

Ryan Williams, 24, of McKeesport has been arrested and charged with six counts of homicide, arson, and burglary, police said. He will be held at the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.

http://www.post-gazette.com/local/e...homicide-in-October-fire/stories/201501160217

Found dead in a second-floor bedroom of the wooden home at 310 Express Alley were 27-year-old Hope Jordan Egenlauf; her 7-year-old son, Dominic Jordan; a 6-year-old daughter, Autumn Jordan; a 3-year-old daughter, Serenity Jakub; and 2-year-old daughter Victoria Jordan.

Ronald Edward Egenlauf, 55, perished in his first-floor room. Paralyzed on his left side from a stroke seven years ago, he used a wheelchair, according other family members.

Mr. Egenlauf's son and Hope’s husband, Keith, 23, escaped but was critically burned. Ms. Jordan and Keith Egenlauf were married in December 2013. Their anniversary would have been Dec. 7, said Laverne Egenlauf, Mr. Egenlauf's mother.

Has a motive been determined? Who does this?

Has a motive been determined? Who does this?

It says this in one of the articles, Zuri.

Ryan Williams, 24, was arrested and charged with six counts of homicide, arson and burglary in this case Friday, according to authorities.

I wouldn't be surprise to learn that this guy didn't even know the family and it was a home invasion in order to burglarize the home. He probably burned the home and the people inside trying to cover his tracks.:(

No matter, it is such a sad and senseless tragic case.

arrest affidavit-

at least three witnesses were interviewed this week and provided information about the case.
Mr. Williams was angry at Keith Egenlauf, thought Egenlauf had gone to authorities with information that resulted in Mr. Williams’ arrest in a theft case.

Mr. Williams said he was “going to get him [Keith Egenlauf].”

Two of the witnesses said that the night before the fire and early on Oct. 18, Mr. Williams drank heavily at their house. A third witness said on that night and into the morning, the suspect “had been very irritated about Keith and continually made inferences of how [Mr. Williams] was going to get” him.

The witnesses said Mr. Williams continued to drink until they went to bed between 5 and 6 a.m. on Oct. 18.
One witness said that between 6:30 and 7 a.m., Mr. Williams woke the witness up and said, “I just lit Keith’s house on fire and if anybody asks, I was here all night,” the affidavit said.

When that witness asked for more information, Mr. Williams said he went to the Egenlauf residence, entered through an unlocked door, lit a roll of toilet paper on fire and tossed it on a couch, the affidavit said.

Watching the news later, Mr. Williams learned that children had died in the fire and wept, telling the witness that he thought Keith Egenlauf lived alone.

Mr. Williams has a history of other run-ins with the law.

What?
Were the witnesses not interviewed until 3 months after the fire? Can any charges be filed against them for not coming forward with info sooner?

It's amazing to me how naive these "kids" are... Honestly, he thought he could just throw some toilet paper on someone's couch and it would be no biggie!? He's ruined the lives of six innocent people and changed the lives surrounding those six people, and he's ruined, and essentially ended his own life, in a mere, immature moment of nonsense. I have an 18 year old, who I try to explain to how easily things can change forever... This is a prime example. This young man obviously had issues, an alcohol was involved, but the same principal is at play, someone needs to teach these kids turning into adults to THINK about the consequences of their actions. I'm sad for everyone involved here.

He is in his mid twenties so far from a kid. Furthermore it's pretty obvious what his motivation was. From what he told other people, he was trying to get someone who lived in the house. I don't see anything suggesting he thought it was going to be no biggie.

Yeah, weird to think that KW thought it would be "no biggie" to kill one person (I believe he did think just that) but is all upset because of the collateral damage he caused. Six lives lost and not even the one he intended to take. .

Seems rather obvious he knew it was going to be a big deal when he reportedly told a witness to tell people he was home all night. That was before he knew there were extra people in the house.

Well it's MOO. I happen to have a child who, no matter how she gets, will always seem normal, but will always not think before doing things. And I know there are a lot of "kids" like her out there that if not given the proper love and attention, these "kids" end up in jail because they don't know how to connect impulses with consequences. This doesn't strike me as a vicious man out to kill another man. I can keep that opinion.

ETA: I'm in no way saying he shouldn't be held responsible for his actions.

A year ago Sunday, a fire tore through a home in McKeesport and claimed the lives of Keith Egenlauf’s father, his wife and her four young children...

Mr. Egenlauf was critically injured himself in the blaze and spent five months in the hospital. A year later, he can’t touch his toes and is still “physically impaired a lot.” “I’m doing fine,” he said. “I’m getting myself together.”

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the death penalty for Ryan Williams, 25, of McKeesport, who is charged with six counts of homicide and related crimes. Investigators... allege that Williams believed Mr. Egenlauf gave police information about a theft case involving Williams.

Arsonist sentenced in fatal McKeesport fire that killed six in 2014
On Thursday, the man who set the fire, Ryan Williams, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder and five counts of second-degree murder, along with related arson counts.

(...)

In the end, Judge Manning ordered Williams to serve two consecutive life terms, plus an additional 13-1/2 to 27 years, for “unleashing an uncontrollable beast that once let loose kills indiscriminately.”
