Fifteen years ago this month, Cheryl Dornon, then a Milwaukie police officer, arrived home from a birthday party in Yamhill County to find the back door open... When authorities arrived at the home on Southeast Linwood Avenue, just off Johnson Creek Boulevard, they found Keith Brian Dornon shot to death inside.

At the time, police said it looked as if Cheryl Dornon had interrupted a burglar. Her husband's Ford Ranger pickup was missing, along with some valuables. His truck was found shortly afterward on the south side of Clackamas Town Center, but the missing items never turned up.

In the ensuing months, police picked up some "persons of interest" for questioning, but to this day, no one was ever charged with the slaying.

They investigated whether the murder could have been retaliation connected to Dornon's wife's law enforcement career, but there was no evidence to establish a connection.

Detectives traced some of the property stolen during the robbery, including a computer, Dale Earnhardt bag and a joystick, to a home in McMinnville, but Don Dornon says it was another lead that led nowhere...

In 2011, Dornon says detectives told him they believed two or three people were connected to the murder, including a licensed federal firearms dealer, but never gave him any names, and he hasn't heard a word about the investigation since.

Not forgotten. Prayers for the family, peace and resolution.
