Police have continued their search for missing man Sevak Simonian in the Kanangara Boyd National Park today (Wednesday 29 October 2014).

Unfortunately he was not located and there have been no sightings of him since he left his Belrose home last Monday (20 October, 2014).

The search will re-commence tomorrow morning about 9am (Thursday 30 October 2014), which is expected to include local police, SES, RFS, Ambulance personnel and other volunteers.

Police investigating Mr Simonian’s disappearance are still appealing for anyone with information about his whereabouts or last known movements to come forward.

Meanwhile police have concerns for the welfare of anyone planning to conduct their own searches for Mr Simonian.

“I know this is an emotional time and people want to do everything they can to find Sevak, however, I have serious concerns for the welfare and safety of community members who are planning to come to the area and conduct their own searches.” said Insp Wall of Chifley Local Area Command.

“The area where the search is being conducted is considered very difficult terrain. We conduct searches with expertly trained and qualified officers who are prepared with a full range of survival equipment.

Any volunteers who wish to assist should be willing to declare their previous bushwalking experience to police. Volunteers should be very experienced bushwalkers only and must supply their own equipment.

Any assisting volunteer will be tasked to search with an experienced searcher, who will be allocated by the search coordinator. Due to the very difficult terrain, all volunteers must have a very high level of fitness.

Any person who is intending to assist should come to the Kanangara Wall Road car park at the Kanangara National Park prior to midday on any day they attend.

They should firstly report to the search coordinator on site prior to undertaking any searching.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/

Search for Sevak Simonian: emergency services head back into the bush
http://www.westernadvocate.com.au/s...ency-services-head-back-into-the-bush/?cs=119

Search goes on for bushwalker Sevak Simonian in Kanangra-Boyd National Park

http://www.westernadvocate.com.au/story/2662622/appeal-for-witnesses/?cs=115

"CHIFLEY Local Area Command police have called for witnesses who may have seen missing Sydney man Sevak Simonian in the first few days after his disappearance"
"It is the first few vital days that Chifley Local Area Command Inspector Mark Wall has asked people to try and remember.

He would like to hear from anyone who either saw Mr Simonian or his car.

The car, which has since been towed by police, is a white 2006 Ford Falcon station wagon with registration number BR 45 HY.

We’re looking for anyone who saw him Tuesday to Friday last week, or his white Ford Falcon station wagon,” he said.

If they saw him and haven’t spoken to police, please call us.”

This is such a dense and remote area - and the weather has been very hot during the day.
He may have had to have refueled on the way up to Oberon from the city - possibly before he left the main highway to head into the park.
I wonder if any of the service stations captured him on camera that day.

I hope they find a trace of where this young man may have gone.
No news on what he may have been wearing?
I've only tuned into this search today.

Lost in the wilderness: Hunt continues for Sevak

October 30, 2014

IT is a wilderness of majestic cliffs and plunging valleys that has claimed lives and changed others forever — but missing bushwalker Sevak Simonian’s parents hope he is one of the lucky ones.

The 21-year-old has been missing for 11 days in the deadly bush of the Kanangra-Boyd National Park, with only a day’s supply of food and water.

A police cadaver dog joined the search yesterday in an area that even highly skilled bushwalkers do not enter alone.

Detectives are now searching the experienced bushwalker’s computer for clues of his planned route.

Twitter push to #FindSevak gains followers but police warn only experienced hikers can help

October 30, 2014

A social media campaign to encourage people to join the search for a missing Belrose man is gaining momentum on Twitter but police say volunteers need to be experienced.

Friends and family started the Twitter hashtag #FindSevak to find more volunteers to search the region however police are concerned for the welfare of anyone planning to conduct their own search.

“The area where the search is being conducted is considered very difficult terrain,” Chifley local area commander Insp Tony Wall said.

“We conduct searches with expertly trained and qualified officers who are prepared with a full range of survival equipment.”

Sevak Simonian a ‘survival freak’: 12-day search for intensifies after reported sighting of lone bushwalker 30km from where he went missing

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...-he-went-missing/story-fni0cx12-1227109035950

"As search efforts to find the 21-year-old — who friends yesterday said was a “survival freak” — continued yesterday, it was revealed there was an unconfirmed sighting of a bushwalker matching his description at Yerranderie on Tuesday.

National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters said they saw a man reading a map just outside the town"

It was so, so hot in the area where he was apparently sighted this week. Bush fires, storms etc. the temperature literally dropped from 38 celcius to 20 celcius in an hour this afternoon. If he is lost, I'd be surprised if he could have survived this long.

The Blue Mountains has experienced bushfires today with the loss of 2 homes at Katoomba.
This is not the area that Sevak Simonian went walking in, but I wondered if personnel were taken off the search to help with the fires - there were numerous helicopters around this afternoon - and SES, Police and Firetrucks.

Regardless, I hope very much there was some progress today in the search for Sevak.

A bit more information in this article.
