NASA rocket Antares explodes on takeoff

    Unmanned NASA rocket explodes

(CNN) -- An unmanned NASA rocket exploded early Tuesday evening.

According to NASA, the Orbital Sciences Corp.'s Antares rocket and Cygnus cargo spacecraft were set to launch at 6:22 p.m. ET. It was set to carry some 5,000 pounds of supplies and experiments to the International Space Station.

"There was failure on launch," NASA spokesman Jay Bolden said. "There was no indicated loss of life."

Bolden added, "There was significant property and vehicle damage. Mission control is trying to assess what went wrong."

I just heard that. This type of explosion at launch doesn't happen often. How critical were these supplies and how soon can they try to get them up there again?

I went out last evening and didn't see it, came back in and saw thar a sailboat had stopped the launch.
Went back out this evening and looked and looked and didn't see it, though the clouds were a bit heavy.
Come back in to see that it exploded, 6 seconds after takeoff. Sad
It's my opinion if no link provided.

Orbital Sciences rocket explodes moments after launch

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. -- An Orbital Sciences Antares rocket carrying an unmanned cargo craft bound for the International Space Station exploded into flames Tuesday evening moments after launch at NASA's Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Wallops Island, Virginia.

The countdown had seemed routine and the rocket lifted off as scheduled, but then burst into a fireball seconds later. The debris crashed down on the launching pad, spreading fiery wreckage around the area.

NASA said all personnel are accounted for and no one was injured.

I was watching the liftoff on NASA TV channel and it looked very breezy at the launch pad. The launch announcer was calling for the insurance guy soon after explosion and later telling all personel to be careful of what you say and to whom.
