TX - Jackeline Veloz, 16, found beaten, strangled in Dallas creek, 21 Oct 2014

Police said the body of 16-year-old Jackeline Veloz was found at about 7:50 a.m. near the intersection of Scyene Road and Hatcher Street.

Investigators determined that Veloz's death was caused by homicide, and they interviewed several witnesses, including the teen's boyfriend.

Based on the interviews, a 16-year-old male was arrested in Veloz's death, but a motive in the death remains unknown, police said.

Friends describe the boy as a friend — like a brother — to Jackie. Police took him into custody after interviewing her boyfriend and other people. Authorities have not offered a motive for the killing, and Jackie’s family is at a loss...

Edith Gonzalez, a mutual friend, said Jackie and the boy were close friends. “He’s been through some stuff. I don’t know if he let it get to him,” said Edith, who had known him for several years. “I really don’t know.”

She said his mother and sister had died, his father works long hours, and his brother has been in and out of jail.
