While serving a 30-year prison sentence for two fatal shootings in 2003, Wali Williams’ conviction was overturned due to an illegal police search and he was released from prison in May 2013.

But on March 3, 2014, Williams is accused of fatally shooting 21-year-old Newark resident Anthony Flowers on Avon Avenue in the city, authorities said. Another man was shot in the incident, but survived his injuries, authorities said. Williams remains in the Essex County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.

Also charged in the fatal shooting is 29-year-old Irvington resident Laquan Dwight, who was one of Williams’ co-defendants in the 2003 double murder.

Following a trial before Superior Court Judge Martin G. Cronin, the jury found Wali Williams, 32, guilty of conspiracy but acquitted him of murder in the March 3, 2014 death of Anthony Flowers...

Prosecutors say Williams, who also has a previous conviction for aggravated assault, faces 10 to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 17.

New Jersey DOC says Williams got 17-20 years:
