You're welcome. I'm planning on going to the news conference so I'll try and post an update when I get home.

I do know for a fact that LE is back on the mountain. I got a tip this morning about some activity up there so hubby and I rode around there this afternoon and all of the No Parking signs and Law Enforcement Only Parking signs were back in place along the edges of the road, and a Porta John has been brought in, along with some 4-wheelers.

beachlvr0810, do you know if they are also on the mountain to look for James Walker as well?

I am just speculating and wondering if someone may have come forth with info of a definite location of where they should search.
Time can't come quick enough to hear their latest press updates!!

"At a news conference in southwest Virginia, Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown says investigators have tips and evidence leading them to begin a forensics search on Taylor’s Mountain.

With a medical examiner standing by, and FBI forensics experts on the scene, Brown was asked whether he expects to find human remains Monday.

“We would hope to, I can’t say if we expect to,” says Brown.

Brown would not discuss the investigative developments that led to the search of the mountain, in the Thaxton area of Bedford County, but said X-ray and police dogs have been part of the search.

Brown expects the dig to last two days, weather permitting."

New article about the dig from today's press conference.

    Two day dig...

This statement leads me to believe that investigators have located a pretty specific place to dig rather than just starting a general area excavation.

Most likely, they have been given some sort of tip regarding a burial spot and they have used cadaver dogs, in ground radar, and likely other preliminary methods prior to begining soil removal.

Two days is a very short time frame to accomplish such a dig. Making such a statement would indicate that they have received a very specific tip from someone.

I wonder whether this area is within, or next to an established cemetery or if it is on private property.

I agree with all your points Richard and have the same questions. The Lyon family are in my prayers at what must be a particularly difficult time.

Thanks, you guys, for all the info and the updates -- but most especially for keeping this forum active through the years so that, as is the case with newbie me, those with interest have a written record and links available handily, with helpful commentary, in a central locale.

"Bedford Co., VA - The FBI is on Taylor's Mountain again today completing a forensic dig, searching for the remains of two little girls from Maryland.

They are digging close to the road and in another spot in the woods.

The dirt is dumped into sifters and washed, to look for any items of interest.

Sheriff Mike Brown tells us the team will likely be on the mountain through Thursday.

The persons of interest in the disappearance of the girls have family ties to that property."

This is the latest article the dig is to continue to Thursday. Photos of digging from the road at link.

I talked to Randy Krantz yesterday about James and asked him if the searchers were keeping James in mind as they searched and he said yes, that these are two separate cases but they are keeping him in mind when they search.

BEDFORD CO. (WSLS 10) - The Bedford County Sheriff's Office announced Monday a new two day search for the missing Lyon sisters. For the first time, officials are conducting a forensic dig on Taylor's Mountain. During the press conference Monday, Sheriff Mike Brown said they received new information on specific areas to search.About a dozen members of the FBI's evidence recovery team and a couple members of Virginia State Police are assisting in the two day dig.

Officials first searched Taylor's Mountain in September 2014 after receiving new information.

Sheriff Brown says they are close to finding an answer on what happened to the sisters and provide their family closure.

"We want so bad for this to end with a successful conclusion, bring information as to where the children are so that they, like I said, in my first press conference can receive an appropriate burial," said Sheriff Brown. The Sheriff added that this case has put a huge impact on the department financially and mentally. It has also impacted residents of Taylor's Mountain. Sheila and Katherine Lyon went missing in 1975 from a shopping mall in Montgomery County, Maryland and officials believe they were eventually brought to Bedford County.
The commonwealth's attorney said human information is the key to this case and is pleading for people to come forward if they may have any information....

I mean no offense or disrespect to the Sheriff or the people of Taylor's Mountain. I understand that both have been impacted by this case but that impact has been very recent for both. They haven't gone through anything even remotely close to what the Lyon family has had to endure for nearly 40 years. I can't even imagine the torture that Kate and Sheila went through. As for the financial impact...who cares?! Two children walked outside and were never seen again.

I agree with you, motherof5. I remember very well when the girls disappeared and how awful the whole thing was. Worse was never knowing what happened to them. Forty years later we are still waiting for answers that hopefully are forthcoming. As far as the financial costs being incurred with the searches in Bedford County, Virginia. If the girls remains are located and recovered would it be possible to hold those accused for the financial liability incurred and have them reimburse agencies involved, including the Bedford County Police Dept, the Montgomery County Police Department, the FBI, Liberty University, Radford University, etc.?... And, jumping forward, if people are charged in this case (criminal charges), could the Lyon family also file a suit against them for 'wrongful death' (civil charges). Perhaps Richard could give us his educated opinion here.
