Prince Georges County Police were trying to find the mother of a newborn baby girl who was found outside near a home in Beltsville on Wednesday.
Officers were called to the 12600 block of Shoal Creek Terrace around 11:45 a.m. by a resident who heard the infant crying and found her.
The newborn was taken to a local hospital for care and appeared to be in good health, said doctors, who believe the baby was likely born just hours before she was discovered.
Police urged anyone who may have information that could help detectives track down the mother to call 1-866-411-TIPS; callers may remain anonymous.
