Parafield Gardens 'House of Horrors' kids 'virtually unknown' to authorities

May 31, 2013

SIX children subjected to starvation and torture in Adelaide's so-called House of Horrors case were "virtually unknown'' to state authorities, it has emerged.

When police uncovered the Housing Trust home - where six adults and 21 children lived - they said it was infested with swarms of cockroaches, flies and maggots, and faeces was found on the floor

Today - five years after the shocking discovery of the abuse at the Parafield Gardens home - the government released its response to 32 recommendations by the Child Death and Serious Injury Review Committee into the shocking case.

It received the recommendations in October last year

Reading that was quite hard. Kate clearly loves her mother who she credits for helping her to break the cycle of abuse and neglect. I hope Kate reaches out for help because surely she will need it after all she's been through. Already with a third child on the way and only 18 yrs old, it's just so sad that her childhood was cut short. :( The whole case is just so disturbing and shocking that 'parents' can be so cruel, and we're suppose to be the lucky country, not so for those 21 children and the many others out there.

After watching that I can't believe Kate can speak so glowingly of her mother. It's amazing how even after such appalling abuse, a child can still love their parent. :( Staker is despicable and should never see her children again, or anybody's children for that matter! And these 'men' just make me sick and deserve long imprisonment along with the mothers. :( :sigh:
