A 23-year-old Clovis woman was killed Sunday morning and police said her 6-year-old son may have been a witness to the slaying.

Police were called to Goodwin Lake walking trail about 7:30 a.m. after witnesses said they heard loud screaming and found a woman dead east of the main entrance to the trail.

When police arrived, they spoke with a 6-year-old boy who had approached a man in the parking lot east of North Prince Street. The child has since been identified as the son of the victim, Ariel Ulibarri, 23, of Clovis.

The child was not injured.

Police found the body of Ariel Ulibarri of Clovis on Sunday after people heard screams at the Goodwin Lake Trails Walking Park.

Police Capt. Patrick Whitney said investigators don't know whether the woman was targeted by somebody she knew or whether she was a victim of a random attack.

Police withheld specifics on how she was killed.

Despite a litany of interviews and tips, law enforcement officials said Monday they weren’t any closer to identifying any suspects in connection with the Sunday morning slaying of a 23-year-old Clovis woman...

“The death of the woman is considered a homicide at this time due to the amount of blood found on the victim and some statements made to police by the deceased’s 6 year-old boy who was at the scene,” according to a release from Clovis Police Department Capt. Patrick Whitney...

Police declined to say what Ulibarri’s son witnessed, but did say he was unhurt and that he told police he did not know his mother’s killer.

You might have to answer a survey in order to view the article. According to Ariel's obituary, she is survived by her two children. I'm not sure if this case might have anything to do with her murder but one of the above articles mentioned it and I tried to find more info.

Man accused of stabbing arraigned

"I just want to tell the family I'm sorry," said Ariel Ulibarri, eyes welling and her body trembling.

"If I would have known," Ulibarri began, stopping a moment to choke back tears. "If I would have known, I would have… (tried) anything to stop it."

Several members of the Saiz family immediately began sobbing as police officers stepped forward to ensure safety for everyone in the courtroom. Ulibarri and her 5-year-old daughter were escorted to a conference room while family and friends, some still sobbing, filed out of the courtroom into the hallway to listen momentarily to District Attorney Matt Chandler.

Minutes later outside the court building, Ulibarri explained she was Sena's fiancé and not his wife. She said she had no idea of the trouble brewing the night of the killing, that she was at home asleep along with her two children, ages 4 and 5.

Ulibarri said she and Sena have known each other about 12 years and began dating about 10 months ago. She said Sena — a six-time felon out of prison less than three months when he was accused of killing Saiz — was recently picking up jobs as a tattoo artist around Clovis.

"He was good to me and my children," Ulibarri said. "My kids actually called him dad."

So might not have been a random murder, she could have been targeted as revenge killing. Wonder if the ex boyfriend was in a gang.

A little more info on her ex-fiance

Accused killer Ricardo “Rico” Sena appeared in court Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death last Saturday of 17-year-old Devin Saiz, but no plea was entered, the Clovis News Journal reported.

Sena, 26, was ordered held without bond and will face a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday in Clovis Magistrate Court, the News Journal said.

Three people, including Saiz, were stabbed at party in Clovis Saturday, the paper reported. Saiz was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, and two others, Jose Lopez, 23, and Javier Bara, 20, were treated for stab wounds.

Affidavit: Witnesses saw Sena with knife

Gang influence
and a girl getting hit in the face with a can of beer appear to have set off a deadly confrontation at a party Saturday at 14th and Reid streets in Clovis.

I think you might be right. I wonder if she testified?

If it was a gang, then she was targeted and taken out for being a snitch. I used to counsel Latin Kings in prison and I know their rules. Gangs have a whole set of different rules when it comes to people being snitches or she could have been targeted by the ex boyfriend also, he could have had someone take her out. Sounds like she was followed and they knew she was going to be there.

BBM: "ensure the safety" - I wonder who's safety they were ensuring? :( She was taken to a different room than the family and friends of the deceased (Saiz). Is it possible his (the victim's) family/friends targeted her?

The story is on Nancy Grace right now - they didn't mention anyone as a possible suspect. Her child did not appear to know who her attacker was - was this filmed (Nancy Grace) maybe before all your information came out ? I am confused. I looked up the name on WS only because I was watching NG which I rarely do because I cant stand her. She has already repeated the info she has about a dozen times

Very beautiful lady. Whats up with these women picking these multiple time offenders? I hope they find her killer and I hope her son gets therapy. He must be traumatized. :(

I just wanted to chime in because I live 100 miles from Clovis so this story has been on our local news. Clovis has a very high crime rate and known gang activity. With that being said, it would not surprise me if this was retaliation. I am also curious about the bullets and gun FB cover update right before her murder.

Editorial: Park homicide more haunting than most

Every homicide is tragic and memorable, especially for a small community like Clovis, which seldom sees more than two or three a year. But last week’s stabbing death of Ariel Ulibarri is more haunting than most. The 23-year-old mother of two wasn’t attacked in a bar; she was on a walking trail in a city park on a Sunday morning with her 6-year-old son. She had no violent criminal past. She volunteered at her children’s elementary school...

Not all of us knew the young lady, but all of us know somebody just like her … focused on family, looking to catch a break and make a better life for herself...

Questions from the article PastTense linked:

Ariel's sister went to the media with questions for LE. Why have investigators not bothered to go through Ariel’s things at her home in search of clues?
Why the family found a bloody knife near the site where Ariel was killed, hours after police had removed the crime-scene tape and reopened the park to visitors?

Good questions, is LE doing a good job with this case?
