Family members reported Melanie Layton Callison, 46, missing on Sept. 25, though her husband — Edward Callison — told relatives that she went to California, according to a police news release.

Edward Callison, 59, has been booked into Sevier County jail. Charges are pending as police continue to investigate his wife’s death.

Although her body has been found, I thought she deserved a thread to remember her. Also, it just really makes me sad when I hear about a spouse that disappears from the hands of her "loved" one.

Edward Callison had only been married to Melanie for five months when she went missing in September...

Police say he had even gone as far as to post updates on Melanie's Facebook account and sent text messages from her phone to covince her family she was still alive.

Facebook photos show newlywed Edward and Melanie Callison honeymooning at a campsite. Richfield Police, Sevier County Sheriff's deputies and employees of the Utah State Crime Lab found human remains Thursday at a campsite in the Willow Patch area of the Fish Lake National Forest.

When Melanie Callison went missing and her husband said she had gone to California, her family knew the investigation would end in tragedy.

"I'm somewhat relieved that we at least know where she is instead of not knowing. The thoughts of what he did to her are really hard. I knew almost from the beginning she wasn't going to be coming back," her mother, Ellen Row, said Friday...

Formal charges are expected to be filed Monday against Callison. He just filed for divorce from his wife on Monday.

Saying that he had wanted her "dead for a while," a Richfield man admitted Tuesday that he murdered his wife, then dismembered and burned her body less than six months after they were married.

Edward Callison, 59, pleaded guilty Tuesday to murder, a first-degree felony, in the death of his wife, Melanie Daniels Layton, 46, who disappeared in September. Callison was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

"You are an evil person," 6th District Judge Marvin Bagley told him. "It's my recommendation that you never leave prison, unless it is in a hearse."
