Tracy Linn Hassel was arraigned before a magistrate in Greenville after being transferred from the State Correctional Institution in Muncy, where she was already incarcerated when she was charged with the Crash murder last month.

It took 16 months of detective work before investigators were ready to announce a suspect in the slaying of a Mercer County businessman who was stabbed 76 times in his home, but it’s still not case closed...

Where is the murder weapon, which police have not found? How many assailants were there? Why was the suspect, Tracy L. Hassel, charged with second- and third-degree murder but not first-degree murder, which applies to an intentional killing, in a case where there were so many wounds, and do investigators still have any interest in various people who were subject to some of the case’s search warrants?

The body of Crash, who had been stabbed more than 70 times, was found by family members on the morning of July 25, 2013, when he didn't arrive for work at Frank Crash Auto Wrecking. A diamond ring and money he was always known to carry around in one of his front pockets were missing.

A cigarette, which showed DNA evidence of Hassel and Crash, was found near a back door that had been pried open. Hassel's DNA also was found on the door.

Her boyfriend told detectives that Hassel — who acknowledged having an intimate relationship with Crash — told him she stabbed the businessman.
