"Mystery tip-off could be breakthrough in 18-year cold case of missing teenage girl"

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-n...-could-6277401

A mystery tip-off has sparked a new search for a 17-year-old girl who vanished nearly two decades ago.

Police sub aqua teams and forensic specialists are combing areas of bogland in the hunt for Ciara Breen who disappeared in 1997.

The search will resume this morning and officers investigating the case are now working on finding anything that might lead to a breakthrough to give her family the answers they need.

One theory being probed is that Ciara died a violent death and her body was dumped in the marshland.

Remains found are "Historical" and at least 70 years old
The two storey, mid terrace house was cordoned off and speculation centred on whether the remains were those of Dundalk teenager, Ciara Breen, who went missing in 1997 aged 17 from the home she shared with her mum, Bernadette, at nearby Bachelor's Walk. But within hours, Gardai, using the services of a forensic anthropologist, were able to state publicly the skeleton was 'historic'.

The spokesman said: 'Gardai in Dundalk have completed the preliminary examination with the assistance of a forensic anthropologist and the State Pathologist who have confirmed that these human remains are historic. These remains are not connected to any ongoing Garda investigation'.
