"ST. LOUIS • Toward the end of a two-hour sentencing hearing Friday, Circuit Judge Bryan Hettenbach asked a psychologist on the stand whether releasing triple murderer Harry Little on jail time already served would endanger the public.
“If he drinks or abuses drugs, yes,” the psychologist said.
With that, Hettenbach sentenced Little, 67, to two consecutive life prison terms plus 15 more years for the murder of Little’s girlfriend, Sylvia Brown, four years ago....
A life sentence in Missouri now is calculated at 30 years, meaning an offender must serve about 25 years before being eligible for parole....
On Friday, Little continued to deny murdering Brown. His denial followed testimony from psychologist Dr. Donald Cross, who said Little was sexually abused as a child, bullied in middle and high school and suffered long-term drug and alcohol addiction that may have led to blackouts from excessive consumption. Cross said that if Little resumed using drugs and alcohol after prison, “it’s as if he never stopped.”
“I didn’t have no memory lapse,” Little told the judge. “I didn’t do it.”
After Friday’s sentencing, Martez Brown said “justice was served today.”
“It soothes the pain,” he said. “It’ll never erase the pain, but it is somewhat of a joy knowing that Harry Little can no longer hurt anyone else. His reign of terror is over. ... Now I can sleep. I can rest knowing that this man got what he deserved.”"
