TX - Herbert Deaton, 85, murdered, Jasper, 4 Nov 2014 *Arrests*

Deputies have identified the remains found on Texas 73 in Jasper last week as 85-year-old Herbert W. Deaton...Preliminary findings after the autopsy report show that the death was a homicide, Newman said.

Authorities are looking for Robert Kelly Mounts, 48, and Ashley Nicole Lewis, 29. The couple, who Newman said is known to target churches and fabricate stories to con victims out of money, is traveling with a 6-month-old girl, according to Newman.

UPDATED-NEW INFO/NEW PHOTOS Search continues for couple in murder of elderly man

Investigators are looking for Robert Kelly Mounts, 48, and his girlfriend, Ashley Nicole Lewis, 29. According to Sheriff Newman, the couple is considered armed and dangerous, and they are traveling with their 6-month-old baby daughter. Newman says they have been seen in the victim’s vehicle, which is a silver 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck with Texas license plate CZJ6127.

KJAS News has confirmed with Newman that Robert Mounts most recently had an address in Vidor, and has ties to the states of Iowa and Maine.

Sheriff Newman says if anyone sees the couple or the truck, you are warned to not make contact with them, but instead call 911 and report where they are.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said late Monday afternoon that the 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was owned by 85-year-old Herbert W. Deaton, was located on a K-Mart parking lot in Abilene. Newman said Abilene Police are preserving evidence and his investigators are headed that way.

The persons of interest, Robert Kelly Mounts, 48, and his girlfriend, Ashley Nicole Lewis, 29, have not been found.

The US Marshal’s Service and Indiana State Police arrested Mounts and Lewis at a Terre Haute motel Monday morning. At 11:30 a.m. they took both into custody without incident and their nine-month-old daughter was taken into the custody of the Vigo County Child Protective Services.

Mounts was wanted on charges out of Texas including unauthorized use of a vehicle and credit/debit cards, abuse of the elderly and criminal mischief. He was also wanted on a charge of unlawful sexual contact with a minor out of Maine.

Lewis was also wanted on charges including unauthorized use of a vehicle and credit/debit cards, abuse of the elderly and criminal mischief.

Jasper County has confirmed to 12News that the couple accused with stealing a vehicle and wanted for questioning in a November murder was transferred back Tuesday. They were being held at the Jasper County Jail by Tuesday night.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Robert Kelly Mounts, 48, and Ashley Nicole Lewis, 29, will be questioned about the death of Herbert Deaton, 85.

Sheriff Mitchell Newman, an investigator and a Texas Ranger went to Indiana after the couple agreed to extradition.
