Myron May was armed with a .380 semi-automatic handgun and reloaded at least once. He tried to get past security barriers in the Strozier Library before he was fatally shot by officers. May and officers exchanged more than 30 shots.

Earlier reports were that he was clearly in distress, so was this a psychotic event?

Police said they have a journal and videos that indicate a gunman who shot three students at Florida State University's library on Thursday believed the government had targeted him.

He was reportedly hearing voices and thought somebody was watching him. Sounds to me like he developed paranoid schizophrenia.

Eight friends of the Florida State University shooter are each expecting a package from him Friday. Joe Paul, one of the friends of Myron May, had received a Facebook message from him Tuesday asking for his address. On Wednesday, May told him the package had been mailed and should arrive Friday. Paul was also emailed a picture of the package.

Here is his FB. He was clearly paranoid and posted about it.

I think it's taken down now. I can't pull it up. I looked earlier today before media announced his name. Interesting, when it got out in media the things people were posting on it. I think MM cleaned his page up before the shooting.

On a side note there is another guy with similar last name posted on his own page "No I'm not that guy"

And I did see a news outlet spell the shooter last name like that guy.

This is my alma mater. Now that I'm older, I have many friends whose children attend school there. It has been a very difficult day, but I am thankful that things were not worse.

: Taunton Family Children's Home
November 20, 2014

Our hearts are broken for the students involved in the FSU shooting last night and for Myron May's family.
Myron was staying temporarily at the Children's Home in one of our Guest Cabins for the few weeks while looking for a place to rent in Wewahitchka.
He was a long-time friend of our family, ran cross-country with our boys and was a frequent visitor at our house during his teen years.
He was an accomplished attorney, having graduated with honors from Texas Tech, practicing in Houston, Texas and then later in New Mexico.
He recently decided to move back home and open a practice in this area. He had begun his studies to take the Florida Bar in February.
He was not an employee of the Children's Home, merely a temporary guest.
No one who knew him would've dreamed this was possible even though he was having some financial issues and seemed a little down occasionally as most people are at times.
He undoubtedly had other problems of which we were unaware.
Our hearts are saddened at the loss of a bright young man who we thought had a bright future.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and to Myron's family.

"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A law enforcement official says a package mailed by a man who shot three people at a Florida State University library was delivered in Texas and is being investigated by the FBI.

Authorities said Friday the package and others mailed by Florida State alumnus Myron May could contain a video and journals"

"TALLAHASSEE — A man who shot three people at a Florida State University library had complained to police and property managers in New Mexico that cameras were watching him in his apartment, and that he heard voices talking about and laughing at him, according to reports released Friday.

Myron May walked into the Las Cruces Police Department in September to report he was almost certain there were cameras installed in his apartment, and he could hear voices commenting on his activities, a police report said.

For instance, May told an officer, after a bubble bath he began applying lotion to his body and heard voices that said, ‘‘Did you see that? He never puts lotion on.’’

RPM, who calls herself a "targeted individual" and has a website devoted to those claims, said May reached out to her through Facebook about a week ago in anguish.

"He told me he just didn't want to go on living like this," Mitchell said. She said that after their initial conversations, she became wary of May, concerned that he might be what she called an "impostor." May continued to try to contact her and left three voicemails between 9:19 p.m. and 9:42 p.m. ET Wednesday, she said.

"I am currently being cooked in my chair. I devised a scheme where I was going to expose this once and for all and I really need you," he said in one of the messages, which was provided to NBC News and authenticated by a relative as May's voice. "I do not want to die in vain."

In an email he sent at 11:19 p.m., he wrote: "I've been getting hit with the direct energy weapon in my chest all evening. It hurts really bad right now." Police say he opened fire on campus about an hour later.

Mental illness is a terrible thing. RIP Myron, you need not be terrified anymore.

Hoping all the shooting victims, including the students who were not shot, but present, are recovering from that horrible experience.
My heart goes out to the families of everyone involved, what a difficult and worrisome day that must have been. imo.
