A 67-year-old woman in Japan, Chisako Kakeh, has been arrested on suspicion of poisoning her 75-year-old husband last December. Cyanide is reported to have been present in the body of Isao Kakeh, who died just a month after he married Chisako.

However, it has now been revealed that cyanide was also found in the body of her previous elderly husband in 2012, athough strangely, his death was attributed to heart failure after a motorcycle accident, at the time. It's not clear why it has taken nearly a year to question the presence of cyanide in her most recent husband's body, either.

Altogether, six men have died suddenly, shortly after marrying or beginning a relationship with Chisako. Investigations are continuing. She has denied all the allegations.

'The couple came to know each other through a matchmaking agency and her husband was reportedly covered by life insurance.'

The Canberra Times is reporting Chisako is linked to seven deaths, not six. Also, she is a multimillionaire, possibly from all the life insurance policies etc, that she has reaped during her repeated widowhoods.

' "We suspect she did it for money," a police investigator on the latest death said without giving details of the amount involved.

Police are now working on the theory that she could have been behind the deaths of at least some of the other six.

"We can't say how many now.... Given their advanced age, we have to proceed carefully to judge whether their deaths were actually the result of foul play or not," the investigator said.'

The article also mentions that Japan's last 'black widow' was sentenced to hanging in 2012, but she is currently appealing. I had no idea Japan still had the death penalty, let alone by hanging!
