A pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed along with three other people in a shooting at a Cleveland home that also injured the woman’s 9-year-old daughter but left the woman’s toddler son unharmed, police said Saturday.

Sherita Johnson was 28 weeks pregnant when she was shot outside her home around 7:30 p.m. Friday, police said. A 17-year-old girl and two men, ages 19 and 60, were also killed, but the Cuyahoga County medical examiner didn’t immediately release their identities and authorities didn’t provide information about the victims’ relationships...

The preliminary investigation showed that Johnson, 41, arrived home with her children and allowed her daughter to go inside for clothes, according to police. While inside the house, the girl found one or some of the people who had been shot. A male armed with a handgun then ran toward the girl and fired, grazing her chest, police said.

Fox News said Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified one of the other victims as Lemon Bryant, 60.

The stepfather of one of another victim, 17-year-old Shaylona Williams, told the Northeast Ohio Media Group she was training as a nurse. Derick Mayes told the group that his stepdaughter was visiting her boyfriend when the attack happened. The other victim has not been named, but is a male aged 19.

CBS News reported that the 60-year-old was shot in the head as he sat with his back to the door and the teenage boy was also shot in the head. A source close to the case told the news network the teenage girl was shot in the head as she hid in the corner of a bedroom.

Cleveland Police announced Monday there is now a reward of at least $25,000 through Crime Stoppers for information regarding the five people murdered on E. 92nd Street Friday evening.

"Any crime that involves the death of somebody is very serious, but this crime, in particular, appeared very brutal - more so than I can remember in recent times," said Police spokesperson Sgt. Ali Pillow.

Iam just seeing this. So sad. Iam suprised this thread didn't get any sluethers. So far I don't think LE have any suspects. R.I.P

I saw no report of a burglery so the only reason to kill most of the witnessess was rage, which leads me to think it is someone close and known to the victims. The mask was precautionary incase he was seen. The woman in the car and teenager walking in on the crime was a "wrong place at the wrong time" and not the intended target.I think the killer had no time to shoot the children in the car because he either did not see them or had no time to do so because he needed to flee the scene.Possibly could be an ex of one of the victims.Hopefully police have more info but not releasing to the public.I would look into relationships of the victims in the house. It takes something personal to execute a family. This is all speculation on my part.Prayers for the victims.

Cleveland police say they have no suspect and no motive.

Using the bomb squad as a command center, investigators combed through the crime scene again Wednesday. The medical examiner and Crime Scene Unit were working inside the home, while patrol officers and agents from the FBI's Violence Crimes Task Force walked to homes nearby.

Police say their only witness is Johnson's 9-year-old daughter, who was also grazed by a bullet.

Just checked for any new updates & found none. I hope they get some leads in this case soon.

CLEVELAND -- The mother of a 41-year-old pregnant woman who was shot to death in a quintuple homicide in November, along with three others, wants answers for her loved ones.

Patricia Johnson's daughter, Sherita L. Johnson, her unborn baby boy and Sherita's son, 19-year-old Ja'rio Taylor were killed at a shooting that started inside a home in the 1400 block of East 92nd Street.

After five months, Patricia is worried the quintuple homicide may have gone cold. 60-year-old Lemon Bryant and 17-year-old Shaylona Williams were also killed.

During a press conference, Cleveland Police said their only witness at this time is a 9-year-old girl who survived the shooting. Patricia is now helping her granddaughter deal with witnessing her family gunned down. "She said she seen the guy jump from behind the couch she said she just ran... he shot her," Johnson told Channel 3's Hilary Golston.

Police Chief Calvin Williams thanked the community in a press conference Wednesday evening, citing the "dozens of tips" the police department received helped bring closure to the family impacted by the homicide.

"Their help was definitely invaluable in this case," Williams said. "Our community stepped forward and were instrumental."

Finally someone has been arrested for this heinous crime. They have not released the name yet. It is good to see that people were willing to step up and tell what they knew, in order to help solve this case.

James Sparks-Henderson, 20, appeared in court Wednesday as attorneys settled confusion over how his cellphone data would be preserved and copied.

(...) In order to extract the data necessary to study Sparks-Henderson's activity leading up to the shooting incident, however, forensic scientists will have to dismantle the phone.

After hearing testimony from JoAnn Gibb, a forensics expert with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Mack agreed that a copy of the phone's data chip would be sufficient, even though the phone itself may not be salvageable.

O'Donnell did not set a date for trial, although a September starting date was discussed during the hearing. Another pretrial hearing was scheduled for June 23 at 11 a.m.

Cleveland man admits to killing five, including baby, immediately sentenced to life

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/05/cleveland_man_admits_to_killin_1.html

A Cleveland man on Wednesday was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences after he admitted to killing five members of his friend's family and wounding a 10-year-old girl in 2014, avoiding a potential death sentence.

James Sparks-Henderson pleaded guilty to five counts of aggravated murder in an emotional and chaotic hearing just two days before his death penalty trial was set to begin.

A relative of the victims lunged toward Sparks-Henderson's table and was intercepted by deputies after telling the 21-year-old to "wipe that smirk off your face."

The relative, Delray Johnson, was wrestled from the courtroom.

The plea required Sparks-Henderson to take responsibility for killing Lemon Bryant, 60, Shaylona Williams, 17 and Ja'rio Taylor, 18, who were inside their house on Nov. 21, 2014 on East 93rd Street, then shooting and killing Sherita Johnson, 41, and wounding her 10-year-old daughter as they pulled into the driveway.

Johnson was 26 to 28 weeks pregnant. Her baby, Juwan, was delivered at a hospital shortly after the shooting and died 16 minutes later. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office said the child died of prematurity, and ruled the death a homicide.

During the sentencing, the family of some of the victims charged at Sparks-Henderson, saying he was smirking.

"He was over there laughing. That's what hurt my son," Patricia Johnson, the mother of one of the victim's, told News 5. She said the family doesn't have regrets about what happened in the courtroom.

"Him smiling let me know what I needed to know. He's not remorseful and he's not sorry," another family member, Jalante Johnson, told News 5.

Johnson spoke directly to James Sparks-Henderson while sharing his statement in the courtroom Wednesday.

"He gonna wish he took the death penalty when he gets in the prison," he said.
