Authorities say 34-year-old Richard Cutrer was in the Ware County jail on an unrelated charge when they found another man's identification on him. They looked into the man on the ID, 32-year-old Zaran Claude Watts of Broxton, and found that he had been reported missing.

On a search of Cutrer's Broxton home on June 23, police found Watts' body in the freezer.

The Georgia Supreme Court has affirmed the murder conviction and life sentence of a Coffee County man who beat his best friend to death with a mallet, then stuffed his corpse into a freezer while continuing to live at the victim's home...

Watts befriended Cutrer and allowed him to move into his isolated home deep in the woods outside of Broxton. Cutrer had lived at the home about four months when Watts returned from Mississippi with about $18,000 from the sale of some land. Watts spent about $5,000 but kept the rest inside a sock hidden in his home, witnesses testified.

In mid-April 2005, Watts disappeared. Investigators found his body inside a chest freezer at his home two months later.
