Detroit police, jails and other municipal buildings plunged into darkness
The Robert Bashara murder-for-hire trial, which has made headlines around the country, was reportedly stopped by the power outage -- the second such incident since the trial began.
"This is unusual ... it's cold. They don't own a generator? They should look into that," Michelle Devroy groaned to the paper.
The power outage has also affected the People Mover, an above-ground trolley service.
No cause has yet been given.

Widespread Power Outage Hits Downtown Detroit
Thousands of people filed out of darkened buildings in downtown Detroit on Tuesday morning after a widespread power outage plunged the city into darkness. Courts halted trials, confused drivers clogged intersections without working traffic lights and officials responded to reports of people possibly trapped in elevators.
The power went out around 10:30 a.m. ET, leaving roughly 100 buildings without lights as workers scrambled to fix a "major cable failure" before nightfall, Detroit's Public Lighting Department said in a statement...
