A helicopter search is set for Wednesday in West Texas, more than a month after a former East Texas coach went missing.

Brewster County Sheriff's officials say that former Kilgore ISD coach Trey Sands went missing November 1 while on a hunting trip in Alpine, Texas. That's about 80 miles from the Texas-Mexico border...

"My brother went hunting with a co-worker and he didn't come back, but the co-worker did," Kara Sands said.

Picked up a hint on FB that an arrest may have been made in the case very recently. Am finding nothing about that in MSM. Or much of anything at all about Trey's disappearance, really.

from the facebook posts I've been reading, they found his dog yesterday, and are actively looking in that area for Trey. oh my goodness, my daughter woke me up this morning with the news that Trey is missing. She went to college with him and considers him a friend. We watched him play football and he was the guy that all the girls were just crazy about. My daughter and a friend had a class with him, and my daughter wrote a little story about the antics that the girls went through to get his attention. I know his family has to be worried sick and are desperate for some answers. From what I've read about the circumstances, this looks bad...

Is the dog OK?

Sister's FB post says they found his body. So sad.

I guess this is a homicide based on LE bringing in someone for questions and his truck found at another residence.

LE must have worked around the clock on this, because once they realized they had been lied to about Trey's wherabouts, this got resolved quick. There is still a lot missing from the news articles, (like what led up to the murder), but at least the family can take him home.

A third suspect has been taken into custody Thursday in connection with the death of a Kilgore man. Charles Levi Morrow was picked up inside Stanton city limits by the chief of police about 12:30 p.m...

Trey's parents said they reached out to officials there after he stopped responding. "They called the sheriff's department and they were told by a deputy that he was fine and he was living on a ranch," Kara Sands said...

"The guy he went hunting with said that he stayed down there with some girl. He had ridden down with this person, so Trey left his truck at home," she said. "They found his truck at someone's house and they found some personal items of Trey's." One of those items was a Bible she gave her brother in 2008.

Full disclosure - I'm from East Texas and have several acquaintances who knew Trey. I've been a WS lurker for a while and prefer to stay that way, unless I have 100% concrete facts - and my slow-moving brain has no chance of keeping up with the fantastic insight of you WS members! Since I do have a hometown connection with Trey, I do want to encourage any guests/other lurkers to contribute ANY info they may be able to share. The minds at work here can open so many doors!! I want justice for Trey, and peace for his family and friends.

I've been trying for ages to figure out how to quote someone's post in my reply with no luck, but I want to say one thing that REALLY bothers me is that a news source reported that when Trey's family called to report him missing they were told he was "fine" and "living on a ranch"...

I understand and respect that at times it is necessary for law enforcement to keep things quiet, but something about this is off to me. The public isn't supposed to know everything but something is weird when LE are telling the family reporting the missing person that "he's fine." I do not like that.

I think what happened here is the family called LE and after LE questioned the suspect, (who at that time was still considered a friend/acquaintance), they simply took his story at face value, as they had nothing else to go on. He told LE, (from what I read), that Trey met a woman and moved on to a ranch with her. And on the surface, that lie was probably kind of believable, because I know a lot of people who move to west Texas and other areas to work, and they do hook up with women and move right on in...so LE may be used to seeing this. After the Sands still couldn't get in touch with Trey, they emphasized to LE that this was out of his character and they were worried. There hasn't been much written, so Idk how LE realized the suspect lied about Trey's wherabouts, but once they knew it was lie, they got down to investigating. Sorry to ramble, but to make a long explanation short, the suspect lied and LE had no reason at that time, to not believe him. I don't think LE deliberately lied to the family, just told them what they had been told.

District Attorney Rod Ponton said there was nothing new on the latest murder case, the Halloween death of former Kilgore High School football coach Walter “Trey” Sands III, whose body was found in a remote area of Terlingua Ranch this month after being reported missing for more than a month...

Keith Allen McWilliams, 49, of Alpine and Rhonda Joy Bloom, 42, of Terlingua, were arrested before the body was found. Sheriff Ronny Dodson said McWilliams confessed to the murder and took the sheriff to the body under some rocks in the Cedar Springs area of the development, more than 10 miles from the residence where the shooting allegedly occurred. Dodson said Bloom was house sitting at the murder scene. Charles Levy Morrow, 30, of Benbrook was arrested in Stanton later that same week and was returned to Alpine.

Ponton said his office was awaiting autopsy and other laboratory reports before proceeding.

A Brewster County grand jury has returned eight indictments, including three for the Halloween murder of a former Kilgore High School football coach.

Keith Allen McWilliams, 49, of Alpine, Rhonda Joy Bloom, 42, of Terlingua and Charles Levi Morrow of, 30, of Benbrook are accused of “intentionally and knowingly” causing the death of Walter Cayce “Trey” Sands III by shooting, stabbing him with a knife or by hitting him with a “board or other object which in the mean and manner of its use constituted a deadly weapon.”

I hope these trials will take place in Alpine and not someplace like Sierra Blanca
