"The incident began when the uniformed officer, who was driving a marked cruiser, stopped a vehicle in a traffic stop around 2:45 a.m. PT Wednesday at Batchelor Drive and North River Drive.

As he approached the vehicle, he was shot. A second officer on back-up returned fire at the suspect vehicle before it fled.
Gunfire wakes up residents

Witnesses have reported hearing up to 10 shots fired. Resident Harbhajan Bains says he was awoken by the sound of numerous gunshots outside his house."

" The officer was able to share vital information with investigators before he was taken by ambulance.

“He was able to relay information that was very helpful in the initial stages of our investigation,” Meuller said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague, his wife, his two young children, and the rest of his family.”

He confirmed the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting. It is unclear how many times he was shot.

Police are warning the public that the suspect or suspects in the vehicle are considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

Mounties say they’re looking for a 1998-model, white, four-door Chrysler Intrepid with B.C. license plate AF7 65A. Anyone who sees it is asked to call police immediately."

A man who shot a Mountie at a traffic stop in 2014 has been sentenced to 16 1/2 years in prison for what the judge called a heinous crime.

Kenneth Knutson, 38, pleaded guilty to attempted murder earlier on Thursday before joint submissions for the sentence from Crown and defence lawyers...

Cpl. Michaud endured 12 surgeries and spent 112 days in hospital before returning to full-time duties in January. He had worked part-time on administrative duties before returning to his regular job.
